REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 14-ounces of 4-ply Knitting Worsted
ANGORA: 2 balls
NEEDLES: 1-pr. #5 single pointed
CROCHET HOOK: 1-Bone #4

GAUGE: 5½ sts to an inch.

COAT BACK: Using the #5 needles, cast on 130 sts. Purl 1 row. Now work in the pattern panels as follows: ROW 1: K 13, p 12, k 12, p 12, k 32, p 12, k 12, p 12, k 13. ROW 2: P 13, k 12, p 12, k 12, p 32, k 13, p 12, k 12, p 13. Repeat these 2 rows for 2½ inches, ending with the 2nd row. 1st dec. row: K 2 sts together; k 11, dec. 1 st in center of purl panel; k 12, p 12, k 32, p 12, k 12, dec. 1 st in purl panel, k 11, k last 2 sts together, (4 dec.). Follow the sts as they are and work until the piece mea­sures 5½ inches in all. 2nd dec: P 2 sts together in center of the 4 purl panels, (4 dec). Work until the piece measures 6 inches in all. 3rd dec: P 2 sts together in center of first and last purl panels, (2 dec). Note: Work even between decreases which are to be made at the following inches. 4th dec: (6½ inches): K 2 sts at beginning of the row, decrease in each of the 4 purl panels, knit last 2 sts together. (6 dec.). 5th dec: (7 inches): Dec. in first and last purl panel, (2 dec). 6th dec: (7½ inches): K 2 sts together at beginning of row, purl 2 sts together in each of the 4 purl panels, knit last 2 sts together, (6 dec). 7th dec: (9 inches): Dec. 1 st in first and last panels, (2 dec.). 8th dec: (11 inches): K 2 sts together at beginning of row; dec. 1 st in each of the 4 purl panels, knit last 2 sts together, (6 dec). Now over the first and last purl panels start a cable; knit to within the 4 sts over first panel; slip next 2 sts, knit 2 sts off the dble pt needle, (cable); work across row as sts are to within 4 sts over last panel; make another cable; knit to end of row. Make a cable every 4th row.
   When the work measures 12½ inches start the underarm shaping: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st at each side of work every other row twice. At the same time make a dec. in the purl panels that are remaining until all sts are gone. Then start a cable over these 2 panels as before. Work until the armhole measures 5½ inches above the under­arm. SHOULDER SHAPING: Bind off 6 sts at the beginning of the next 6 rows. Bind off remaining sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT: Cast on 73 sts and purl 1 row. ROW 1: K 13, p 12, k 12, p 12, k 24, (center edge). ROW 2: Purl 24, k 12, p 12, k 12, p 13. Repeat these 2 rows until the piece measures 2½ inches in all. Do decreases to match the back, at the fol­lowing inches: 2½-inches: K 2 sts together at seam, dec. 1 st in first purl panel. 5½-inches: P 2 sts together in center of the 2 purl panels. 6-inches: Dec. 1 st in first purl panel. 6½-inches: K 2 sts together at seam; dec. 1 st in both purl panels. 7-inches: Dec. 1 st in first purl panel. 7½-inches: K first 2 sts together; make a dec. in both purl panels. 9-inches: Dec. 1 st in first purl panel. 11-inches: K first 2 sts together; dec. 1 st in both purl panels. Make cables as on back and do the decreasing. At 12½ inches start the underarm shaping: Bind off 2 sts at the underarm edge once. Dec. 1 st at underarm edge every other row twice. Work to correspond to the back yoke until the arm­hole measures 4½ inches above the underarm. NECK SHAPING: At neck edge bind off 12 sts once; thereafter 5 sts until 18 sts re­main. When the armhole measures the same as the back, from the armhole edge bind off 6 sts 3 times.

RIGHT FRONT: Cast on 73 sts and purl 1 row. ROW 1: K 24, p 12, k 12, p 12, k 13, (seam edge). ROW 2: P 13, k 12, p 12, k 12, p 24. Work to correspond to the left front. First buttonhole: (Made when there is 1 purl st in outer panel). Knit 4, bind off 5 sts, work to end of row. On the next row cast on 5 sts above those bound off. Make 3 more buttonholes evenly spaced to neck edge.

SLEEVES: Cast on 36 sts and work in stockinette st increasing 1 st at each side of work every 6th row until you have 50 sts on the needle. Work even until the piece measures 9½ inches in all, or as long as you want up to the underarm. UNDERARM: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st at each side of the work every other row 8 times; every row 6 times. Bind off all sts. Make the other sleeve the same way.

CUFFS: Cast on 46 sts and purl 1 row. ROW 1: K 1, * slip next 2 sts onto a dble pt needle and hold in back of work, knit the next 2 sts, knit the 2 sts off the dble pt needle; repeat from * across row, ending with k 1. ROW 2: Purl across row. ROW 3: Knit across row. ROW 4: Purl across row. ROW 5: Cable as before across row. Purl across next row. Work the center 28 sts in stockinette st and cable at the outer edges until the piece measures 2 inches. Next knit row-decrease on 1 row to 38 sts. Purl back. Bind off. Make another cuff.

COLLAR: Cast on 98 sts and purl 1 row. Work as the cuff until 2 cable twists have been made. Next row: (right side of work facing you): Knit 9 sts; decrease 12 sts across row on the center 80 sts; knit the last 9 sts. Now keeping the cables at each end, work the center sts in stockinette stitch until the collar mea­sures 2 inches. Dec. 1 st inside of the borders at each end (2 dec). Do the same at 2½ inches. Work 4 rows even. Bind off all sts.

FINISHING: Sew the shoulder seams, underarm seams and sleeve seams. Sew sleeves into armhole matching the underarm seams. Sew collar and cuffs into place. With the yarn make 1 row of s c around all edges. Then with the angora, make 1 row of s c along all edges.

BONNET: Cast on 70 sts and work in stockinette st for 5 inches. Bind off 12 sts at the beginning of the next 4 rows. On the remaining sts increase 9 sts along 1 row. Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures the length of the bound off piece. Bind off all sts. Front Piece: Cast on 101 sts and purl 1 row. ROW 1: K 15, p 8, k 10, p 8, k 19, p 8, k 10, p 8, k 15. Work back as the sts are. Decrease 1 st in each of the purl 8 panels on every other row until 3 sts are left. NEXT PURL ROW: Work across row, purling the 3 sts together that are left in the purl panels. Now make the cables above these panels on every 4th row 3 times as you did on the coat. Bind off all sts. FINISHING: Sew back seam. Place front cuff into place and sew. Border: Pick up all sts around the lower edge of bonnet. Purl back. Cable every 4 sts. Work 3 rows even. Make another cable row. Purl back. Bind off all sts.
