REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 3-ounces of White 3-ply Baby Yarn. 1-ounce of Green 3-ply Baby Yarn.
NEEDLES: 1-pr. #1 single pointed; 1-pr. #3 single pointed.

GAUGE: 8 sts to an inch. 10 rows to an inch.

BACK: Using the #1 needles and the white yarn cast on 72 sts. Work in ribbing of p 2, k 2 for 3 rows. Tie in the green yarn and work in ribbing for 2 rows. Work 2 rows of white in the ribbing. Work these last 4 rows alternately for 1½ inches. Change to the #3 needles and work in stockinette stitch still changing the colors every 2 rows until the piece measures 7½ inches in all.

UNDERARM: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, (once at each side). Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every row twice, (68 sts). Work even until the armhole measures 4½ inches above the underarm bind off. SHOULDERS: Bind off 7 sts at the beginning of the next 6 rows. Place the re­maining sts onto a st holder for the back of neck.

FRONT: Work exactly as the back up to the underarm. Make the bind off and decreases, (68 sts); ending with 2 rows of white. With the white k 29 sts, place these onto a st holder for the left front. Tie green yarn in, knit the next 39 sts. Next row: Purl 28 sts, k 3, p 5, k 3. Next row: Knit across row with green. Repeat these last 2 rows, 4 times more. Work a purl row. Buttonhole: K 5, bind off 3 sts, finish the row. On the next row cast on 3 sts over the place where you bound off. Make buttonholes an inch apart. Make 24 rows of green stockinette stitch. Change to the white yarn and work in stockinette stitch keeping the border until the piece measures 3½ inches above the underarm bind off. NECK SHAPING: At the neck edge bind off 10 sts once; decrease 1 stitch at the neck edge every row 8 times. When the armhole measures 4½ inches above the underarm bind off shape the shoulders. SHOULDERS: From the armhole edge bind off 7 sts 3 times. Break yarn.

LEFT FRONT: Place the sts off st holder back on the needle using the white yarn, at the neck edge cast on 10 sts for the underlap. 1st row: K 3, p 5, k 3, purl 28 sts. 2nd row: Knit across. Work remainder of the front to correspond to the right one, omitting the buttonholes.

LONG SLEEVES: Using the #1 needles and the white yarn, cast on 48 sts and work in ribbing as on the band, changing the colors every 2 rows until the cuff measures 2 inches, ending with a green row. Break off green. Use white yarn for the remainder of the sleeve. Knit 5 sts, * increase 1 stitch in the next st, k 3, repeat from * 9 times more, knit to end of row, (58 sts). Work in stockinette stitch until the sleeve measures 8½ inches in all. UNDERARM AND CAP SHAPING: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, (once at each side). Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every other row 10 times. Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every row 6 times. Bind off remaining sts. Make the 2nd sleeve the same way.

FINISHING: Sew shoulders, side seams, sleeve seams. Sew sleeves into the armhole matching the underarm seams. NECK BAND: Using the #1 needles and the white yarn, pick up and knit 78 sts around the neck and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2, for 6 rows. Bind off loosely.
