SIZES 6 (8-10-12).

NOTE—Underline or circle the num­bers applying to the size desired. The first number in each group is for size 6, the second for size 8, the third for size 10, the fourth for size 12.

MATERIALS—SPINNERIN CANDOUR 1 (1-2-2) skeins for each sweater; 1 pair Knitting Needles No. 1; 1 pair Knitting Needles No. 4; 1 set double point Needles No. 1.

MEASUREMENTS—Chest 24 (26-28-30) inches, bottom to underarm (9½ (9¾-10½-11) inches.

GAUGE—7 sts. = 1 inch. 10 rows = 1 inch. Accurate gauge is essential.

PATTERNRow 1—*K2, P2, repeat from * across row, ending with K2. Row 2—*P2, K2, repeat from * across row, ending with P2. Row 3—Repeat Row 1. Row 4—Repeat Row 2. Row 5—K1, P2, *K2, P2, repeat from * 9 (9-10-11) times more. K4, P2 (K2, P4—K4, P2—K4, P2), *K2, P2, repeat from * 9 (10-10-11) times more, K1. Row 6—P1, K2, *P2, K2, re­peat from * 9 (9-10-11) times more, P4, K2 (P2, K4—P4, K2—P4, K2), *P2, K2, repeat from * 9 (10-10-11) times more. P1. Row 7—Repeat Row 5. Row 8—Repeat Row 6. Row 9—Repeat Row 2. Row 10—Repeat Row 1. Row 11—Repeat Row 2. Row 12—Repeat Row 1. Row 13—Repeat Row 6. Row 14—Repeat Row 5. Row 15—Repeat Row 6. Row 16—Repeat Row 5. Repeat these 16 rows throughout.

BACK—Using No. 1 needles, cast on 90 (94-98-106) sts. and work in pattern as follows for ribbing: Row 1—*K2, P2, repeat from * across row, ending K2. Row 2—*P2, K2, repeat from * across row, ending P2. Repeat these 2 rows for 2½ (2¾-3-3) inches, ending with Row 2. Change to No. 4 needles and work in body pattern until back measures 9½ (9¾-10½-11) inches from start. At the beg. of each of the next 4 (4-4-4) rows, bind off 6 (6-6-7) sts. Dec. 1 st. each end of needle every other row 4 (4-5-5) times; (58 (62-64-68) sts. on needle). Work even until armhole measures 6½ (7-7¼-7½) inches straight up from underarm. At the beg. of each of the next 6 (6-6-8) rows, bind off 4 (5-5-4) sts. Bind off remaining 34 (32-34-36) sts.

FRONT—Work in same manner as back to armhole. Work in pattern over first 45 (47-49-53) sts. Slip remaining 45 (47-49-53) sts. onto holder to be worked later for right shoulder. Working on sts. of left shoulder, at arm edge, bind off 6 (6-6-7) sts. twice, then dec. 1 st. at arm edge, every other row 4 (4-5-5) times. AT THE SAME TIME, when bind­ing off for armhole, shape V-neck by dec. 1 st. at neck edge every 4th row 13 (16-17-18) times. For Size 6 only: Then every 3rd row, 4 times more; (12 (15-15-16) sts.). When armhole measures 6½ (7-7¼-7½) inches straight up from under­arm, at arm edge, bind off 4 (5-5-4) sts., 3 (3-3-4) times. Work other shoulder to correspond.

FINISHING—Sew underarm and shoulder seams. Using No. 1 double point needles, pick up 32 (32-32-36) sts. across back of neck on 1 needle; 63 (65-67-69) sts. along left front neck to point of V on 2nd needle; 65 (67-69-71) sts. along right front neck on 3rd needle. Join. Work as follows: Round 1—*Work in ribbing of K2, P2 to last 3 sts. of 2nd needle (at point of V), K3. At start of 3rd needle, K3, and work to end of round in ribbing to correspond with other side of neck. Round 2—*Work in ribbing of K2, P2 to last 3 sts. of 2nd needle, K2 tog., K1. At the beg. of 3rd needle, K1, slip 1, K1, P.S.S.O. and finish round. Repeat these 2 rounds for 1 inch. Bind off loosely, knitting the K sts. and purling the P sts. Using No. 1 double point needles, and starting at underarm seam, pick up 128 (128-132-136) sts. around armhole. Work as follows: Round 1—*K2, P2, repeat from * to end of round. Round 2—K1, slip 1, K1, P.S.S.O., work in ribbing pat­tern to last 3 sts. of round, K2 tog., K1. Repeat these 2 rounds for 1 inch. Bind off loosely.
