Knitting Needles: One pair "Boye" Size 5 and one crochet hook Size 0

Gauge: 6 sts to 1 inch; 8 rows to 1 inch
Note: When changing colors always pick up new color from under dropped color to prevent a hole.
Back: With Size 5 needles and Color A - cast on 150(154-158-162-166). K 1 and P 1 in ribbing for 1 inch. Starting on right side with a P row, work in St St to 3 inches above start, end with a K row. Directions are for a 33½(33¾-34-34¼-34½) inch dress measured from lower edge to shoulder.

To lengthen or shorten, make adjustment here. Dec 1 each side on next row, every 2 inches 2(3-4-5-6) times then every inch 9(7-5-3-1) times, end with a P row at 16 inches from start, 126(132-138-144-150) sts rem. Width is 21(22-23-24-25) inches. Next row K 13(15-17-20-22) sts, [K 2 tog, K 2] 8 times, K 36(38-40-40-42) sts, [K 2, K 2 tog] 8 times, K to end, 110(116-122-128-134) rem. Using a separate skein for each color change, work as follows:
Row 1 - Right side: P 12(14-16-19-21) A, with B - K 1 and P 1 in ribbing for 25 sts, with A - P 36(38-40-40-42), with B - K 1 and P 1 in ribbing for 25 sts, with A - P to end.
Row 2: With matching colors, K the K sts and P the P sts as they face you.

Repeat these 2 rows to 27 inches or desired length above start, end with Row 2.

Armholes: Working in pat, bind off 5(5-6-6-7) at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 each side every other row 4(5-5-6-6) times. Work on the 92(96-100-104-108) sts to 1¾(2-2-2¼-2¼) inches above underarm, end on right side. With matching colors, work across 28(29-30-32-33), K 2 tog, work to end. Break off A and work on the 91(95-99-103-107) sts with one skein of B as follows:

Yoke: Sizes 10(14-16) only on right side P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across.

Row 2: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across.

Sizes 12(18) Only on right side K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across.

Row 2: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across.

All Sizes repeat last 2 rows to 6½(6¾-7-7¼-7½) inches above underarm, end with Row 2. Width across shoulder is 13(13¾-14¼-14¾-15¼) inches when stretched slightly.

Shoulders: Bind off 8(8-9-9-10) at beg of next 6(4-6-4-6) rows then on Sizes 12(16) Only bind off 9(10) at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off 43(45-45-47-47) for neck.

Front: Work same as back to 2½(2¾-2¾-3-3) inches above underarm, end on right  side with 91(95-99-103-107) sts.

Opening: Work across 46(48-50-52-54) and sl them to a holder for right front, work to end of row. With B - continue in ribbing on the 45(47-49-51-53) sts of left front to 5½(5¾-6-6¼-6½) inches above underarm, end at opening.

Neck: Bind off 15(16-16-17-17) at beg of next row. Dec 1 at same edge every row 6 times And At The Same Time when armhole matches back armhole bind off 8(8-9-9-10) at shoulder edge 3(2-3-2-3) times then on Sizes 12(16) Only bind off 9(10) at same edge once. Starting at neck, work on the 46(48-50-52-54) sts to match left front to neck, end at neck.

Neck and Shoulder: Bind off 16(17-17-18-18) sts at beg of next row then finish to correspond to other side.

Sleeves: With Size 5 needles and Color A - cast on 48(50-50-52-52). K 1 and P 1 in ribbing for 1 inch. Starting on right side with a P row, work in St St to 1½ inches from start, end with a P row. Inc 1 each side on next row then every 8th row 12(12-10-10-7) times then On Sizes 14(16-18) Only inc 1 each side every 6th row 3(3-7) times. Work on the 74(76-78-80-82) sts to 17 inches from start, end on wrong side. Width across is 12¼(12¾-13-13¼ -13½) inches.

Sleeve Cap: Bind off 6 at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 each side every other row until 30 sts rem. Bind off 2 at beg of next 6 rows. Bind off the 18 sts.

Collar: With Size 5 needles and Color A - cast on 103(106-106-109-109) loosely. P 1 row. Working reverse St St, inc 1 each side every row twice. Work 4 rows on the 107(110-110-113-113) sts. Dec 1 each side on next row then every 3rd row 7 times more. Bind off the 91(94-94-97-97) sts for neck edge.

Belt Loops: Make 8. With Size 5 needles and Color A - cast or 7 sts.

Row 1 - Right side: K 1, * P 1, K 1 repeat from * across.

Row 2: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across. Repeat these 2 rows for 3½ inches. Bind off. Sew shoulder seams. Turn in ¼ inch hem on the 3 outer edges of collar, mitering the corners. Sew to neck leaving ½ inch free at each front. With Color B crochet 1 row of sc around opening. Close front with snap fasteners. Sew in sleeves then sew side and sleeve seams. Turn in ¼ inch at each end belt loops. Sew 2 loops to each Color B section as shown.
