SLIP-OVER MATERIAL:
3 (4) balls Sportyarn (2 oz. ball)
1 pair knitting Needles each No. 2 and No. 4
1 set sock needles No. 2
1 stitch holder

GAUGE: 6 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN: Stock. st. throughout the entire sweater.

BACK: Cast on 84 (90) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch., increasing 4 (6) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. With 88 (96) sts., work even until the entire piece measures 12 (13) inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 (6) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (74 (80) sts. left). Work even for 6 (6½) inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg of the next 4 (6) rows 11 (8) sts., rem. 30 (32) sts. slip on a stitch holder.

FRONT: Cast on 86 (92) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch., increasing 4 (6) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. With 90 (98) sts. work even until the entire piece measures the same as back up to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 (7) sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (74 (80) sts. left). Work even for 4 (4½) inch, from the first binding off. Work over 28 (30) sts. and slip them to a holder. Bind off for neck 18 (20) sts. and work over rem. 28 (30) sts. Bind off 2 sts. at neck edge every other row until 22 (24) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off at armhole edge 11 (8) sts. twice (3 times). Connect yarn to other side of neck and finish to correspond.

SLEEVE: Cast on 44 (48) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch., increasing 6 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of the K row every 6th row until 64 (72) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 14½ (16) inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 3 (4) sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 52 (58) sts. are left. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 40 (46) sts. are on needle. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 24 (26) sts. are left over. Bind off. Make the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING: Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams and sew in sleeves. Right side facing you, pick up with No. 2 sock needles 90 (96) sts. (incl. sts. from holder) and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 8 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Steam lightly.

CARDIGAN
MATERIAL:
3 (4) balls Sportyarn (2 oz. balls)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 2 and No. 4
1 set sock needles No. 2
6 (7) buttons

GAUGE: 6 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN: As on Slip-over.

BACK: Cast on 86 (92) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch., increasing 4 (6) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. With 90 (98) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 12½  (13½) inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 (6) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (76 (82) sts. left). Work even for 6¼ (6¾) inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 (4) rows 8 (13) sts., rem. 28 (30) sts. bind off for neck.

FRONT: Cast on 50 (52) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch., keeping the center front sts. in garter st. throughout the entire front. Incr. 2 (3) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. With 52 (55) sts. work even until the entire piece measures the same as back up to underarm. Bind off for armhole at seam edge 6 (7) sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows at seam edge 2 sts., deer. 1 st. at seam edge twice (40 (42) sts. left). Work even for 4½ (4¾) inch, from the first bind­ing off. Bind off for peck 10 (12) sts. at center edge and then always 2 sts. at neck edge until 24 (26) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 8 (13) sts 3 (2) times. Work the other front to correspond and make 6 (7) buttonholes in front border, starting first buttonhole after ½ inch. (To make a buttonhole: K2 sts., bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts.) Repeat buttonholes every 2 inch., 5 (6) times more.

SLEEVE: Cast on 44 (48) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch., increasing 6 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of the K row every 6th row until 66 (74) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 15 (16½) inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 (5) sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 54 (60) sts. are left. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 42 (48) sts. are on needle. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 26 (28) sts. are left over. Bind off. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING: Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams and sew in sleeves. Right side facing you, pick up with No. 2 needles 84 (88) sts. around the neck and finish off as on Slip-over.
