COATS & CLARK'S O.N.T. "SPEED-CRO-SHEEN" MER­CERIZED COTTON, Art. C.44: 7 (9-10) balls of No. 1 White and 5 (6-7) balls of No. 49-A Killarney.
Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 6 (4¼ mm. size);
OR
CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E.232 (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 12 (15-17) skeins of No. 1 White and 9 (10-12) skeins of No. 686 Paddy Green.
Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 5 (3¾ mm. size).

GAUGE: 5½ sts make 1 inch; 7 rows make 1 inch.

BACK … Starting at inner edge of hem with White "Speed-Cro-Sheen" and No. 6 knitting pins (or No. 5 knitting pins and Knitting Worsted), cast on 112 (118-124) sts. Work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) for ¾ inch, ending with a knit row. Next row (hem­line): K across. Now work in stripe pattern as follows: 1st to 4th rows incl: With White work in stockinette st. Attach Green. 5th to 8th rows incl: With Green work in stockinette st. 9th to 12 rows incl: With White work in stockinette st. The last 8 rows (5th to 12th rows incl) constitute the stripe pattern. Work in stripe pattern until piece measures from hemline 15 (15-15½) inches, ending with a purl row.

Place a marker at both ends of next row (to indicate start of armholes) and continue to work in stripe pat­tern until piece measures from marker 8½ (8½-9) inches, ending with a purl row.

To Shape Shoulders: Bind off 8 (9-10) sts at the begin­ning of next 4 rows. Bind off 7 (7-8) sts at the begin­ning of following 2 rows. Next row: K across. Follow­ing row (hemline): K across. With White only, work in stockinette st for 8 rows, decreasing 1 st at both ends of every other row. Bind off loosely the remain­ing sts.

FRONT … Work exactly as for Back.

SLEEVES … Starting at inner edge of hem with White "Speed-Cro-Sheen" and No. 6 knitting pins (or No. 5 knitting pins and Knitting Worsted) cast on 82 (84-88) sts. Work in stockinette st for ¾ inch, ending with a knit row. Next row (hemline): K across. Now work in stripe pattern as for Back until piece measures from hemline, ending with same stripe as on Back at underarm 5 (5½-5½) inches. Bind off loosely.

Block to measurements. Sew side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Turn under all hems and stitch in place. Sew in sleeves.
