even means that it must be worked without increasing or decreasing.
Pull sts. tog.—Break your yarn and leave about 10 inches. Thread a tapestry needle and pull this needle through the remaining sts.

Mother and Daughter Sweaters

BACK: With m. c. cast on 108 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 3½  inch., increasing 6 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Work stripe pattern in stock. St. as follows: 4 rows m. c., 6 rows dark c. c., 10 rows light c. c. With 114 sts. work even until the entire piece measures 12½  inch, or any de­sired length to underarm. CARRIAGE COVER: Cast on with No. 4 needles and m. c. 152 sts. and work in pattern for 30 inch, or any desired length. Bind off. Border: Work 3 rows s. c. with c. c. around entire cover, going in every corner st. 3 times. Next row: with m. c. * work 1 s. c. in each of the next 2 sts., ch. 3, work 1 s. c. in first st. of the ch. 3 sts. (a picot made), skip 1, repeat from * around entire cover. With 134 (126) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 13 (12½) inch, or any desired length to under­arm. Soaker

Cast on 108 sts. (116) with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 4 rows. Next row * K2, yarn over, P2 tog., repeat from * across row. Continue K2, P2 until piece measures 2 inch. Change to No. 4 needles and garter st., incr. 8 sts. across next row at even intervals. With 116 (124) sts. work even for 10 (12) rows, then decr. 1 st. at beg. of each row until 1 st. is left. Surplice Sweater

BACK: Cast on 68 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. Change to No. 3 needles and stock. st. With 68 sts. work even until the entire piece measures 7½ inch. Cast on for sleeves at the beg. of the next 6 rows 11 sts. Work even for 36 rows. Work over 54 sts. and slip them to a holder, bind off 26 sts. and work over rem. 54 sts. only. (More)
