Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED
2 ozs. Pink or color desired.
1 oz. Black for trim.
1 pr. knitting needles No. 4
Bone crochet hook No. 3
3 small Black buttons
Small piece of felt
Cotton or kapok

BOTTOM—With Pink cast on 12 sts and P 1 row.
Next Row—K and increase in every st (24 sts). P 1 row.
Next Row—K and increase in every 2nd st. P 1 row.
Next Row—K and increase in every 3rd st. P 1 row. K 1 row. P 1 row.
Next Row—K and increase in every 4th st (60 sts). P 1 row. Work even in stockinette st (K 1 row, P 1 row) until work measures 4¼ inches from the beginning ending with a P row.
Next Row—* K 4, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row. P 1 row.
Next Row—* K 3, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row. P 1 row.
Next Row—K 2, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row (30 sts). P 1 row.
Next Row—K and increase in every 3rd st (40 sts). P 1 row.
Next Row—K and increase in every 5th st (48 sts). Work even for 2½ inches from last decreasing row ending with a P row.
Next Row—* K 6, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row. P 1 row.
Next Row—* K 5, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row. P 1 row.
Next Row—* K 4, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row. P 1 row.
Next Row—* K 3, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row. P 1 row.
Next Row—K 2 tog across row, bind off. Gather the bottom and sew side opening up to the last decreasing point. Fill bottom section firmly with cotton or kapok. Sew to within 1 inch from top opening. Fill firmly with cot­ton or kapok and sew remainder of opening and gather top, cut yarn.
NOSE—With Pink ch 2, 5 s c in 2nd st from hook, without joining rounds work 2 s c in each s c. Place a marker at the beginning of rounds.
Next 4 Rounds—Work 1 s c in each s c, cut yarn leaving an end. Fill with cotton or kapok and sew in position.
TONGUE—With Black ch 5, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.
Next 4 Rows—Work 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.
Next Row—Decrease 2 sts, cut yarn. Work a row of s c around entire tongue, cut yarn leaving an end. Sew in posi­tion.
EAR —With Black ch 12, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts of ch, 1 s d c in each of next 2 sts of ch (s d c: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts of ch, 1 tr c in each of next 2 sts of ch, 2 tr c, 1 d c and 1 s c in last st of ch, cut yarn. Work other ear in same manner reversing the shaping by working 1 s c, 1 d c, 2 tr c in 2nd st from hook, finish to correspond.
HAIR—With Black crochet a ch about 15 inches long, cut yarn. With Black cut strands 5 inches long. Using 1 strand, double in half and loop through every st of chain. Sew to head as illustrated sewing in rounds.
HANDS—With Black ch 7, 1 d c in 3rd st from hook, 1 d c in each remaining st of ch, ch 3, turn.
2nd Row—2 d c in next d c, 1 d c in each of the next 3 d c, 2 d c in last d c, ch 4, turn.
Next Row—2 d c in 4th st from hook, ch 3, sl st in same space, * s c in next d c, ch 2, 2 d c in same space, ch 3, sl st in same space, skip next d c, repeat from * twice, s c in last d c, ch 2, 2 d c in same space, ch 3, sl st in same space, cut yarn.
FEET—Work same as hands but working in tr c instead of d c.
Sew hands and feet in position as illustrated. Cut 2 pieces of felt about 1¼” long and shaping to form an oval. Sew in position for eyes sewing small black buttons in position as illustrated. Sew a button in center of body between hands.
