Four Needle Socks Pattern
Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"DAWN" DE LUXE FINGERING YARN or "DAWN" NYLON
3 ounces Med. Blue or color of your choice
4 Double Pointed Knitting Needles No. 2. OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW
2 stitch holders
GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch
Cast on 64 sts, divide sts on 3 needles, 21 sts on 1st needle, 22 sts on 2nd needle, 21 sts on 3rd needle, join and work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 2 inches. (Work in K 2, P 2 ribbing if preferred.) Work in stockinette st (K each round) until work measures 8 inches from beg or is length desired. HEEL: Divide sts as follows: K 16, sl last 5 sts of 1st needle to 2nd needle, K 22 sts on same needle, then K 5 sts from 3rd needle to 2nd needle (32 sts on needle for instep), place these 32 sts on st holder, sl remaining 1 6 sts to 1 st needle (32 sts for heel). Starting with a P row, work in stockinette st (P 1 row, K 1 row) for 2½ inches ending with a P row. Always sl 1st st on these rows. TURN HEEL: Sl, K 17, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 1, turn; sl 1, P 5, P 2 tog, P 1, turn; sl 1, K 6, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 1, turn; sl 1, P 7, P 2 tog, P 1, turn. Continue in this manner until all sts have been worked ending with a P row (18 sts on needle). Divide these sts on 2 needles. K 9 sts on needle, pick up 16 sts on side of heel (1st needle), work across 32 instep sts (2nd needle), pick up 16 sts on other side of heel, K remaining 9 sts of heel to 3rd needle. Work 1 round even. Dec every other round as follows: 1st needle; K to within 3 sts, K 2 tog, K 1; 2nd needle: K across; 3rd needle: K 1, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K to end of round. Work 1 round even. Repeat last 2 rounds until there are 64 sts on needle. Work even until foot measures 7½ inches from heel or is 2 inches less than length desired. DEC FOR TOE: 1st needle: K to within 3 sts, K 2 tog, K 1; 2nd needle: K 1, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., work to within 3 sts of end of same needle, K 2 tog, K 1; 3rd needle: K 1, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., work to end of round. Work 1 round even. Repeat these 2 round until 16 sts remain (8 sts on 2nd needle, 4 sts on each heel needle) ending with 1st needle. Slip 4 sts from 3rd needle to 1st needle, cut yarn leaving a 12 inch length. Thread yarn into tapestry needle and weave sts of toe tog.
PATTERN SOCKS
Work same as Plain 4 needle socks or 2 needle socks working design in duplicate st or knitting design in. Center design on each side and work. In duplicate st repeating pattern as necessary in knitting the design, center pattern on each side and work according to chart.
