MATERIALS – Fleisher's, Bear Brand or Bucilla Kashyr Sweater Yarn, 6 skeins.
1 pair Fleisher's or Bucilla 14-inch Steel Knitting Needles, Size 0.
1 pair Fleisher's or Bucilla 14-inch White Knitting Needles, Size 2.
1 Fleisher's or Bucilla Steel Crochet Hook, Size 4.
6 Buttons 1 inch diameter.

IMPORTANT – Check your gauge first. These directions apply only when Fleisher's, Bear Brand or Bucilla Yarns are used as recommended.

GAUGE: 9 sts = 1 in. 12 rows = 1 in.

MEASUREMENTS FOR FINISHED GARMENT

Width across back at underarm 17 ½ ins. Width across back at shoulders 13 ins. Width of each front at underarm 10 ½ ins. Length from lower edge to back neck edge 19 ½ ins. Sleeves-Width below underarm 13 ins.

Pattern Stitch is a multiple of 4 plus 1.

BACK-With size 0 needles, cast on 126 sts for lower edge.

First row (right side)- * K 2, p 2; repeat from *, ending k 2.

2nd row-* P 2, k 2; repeat from *, ending p 2.

Repeat first and 2nd row until 3 ins. from lower edge, ending on right side.

Increase row (wrong side)- Continuing ribbing, * work 3 sts, increase 1 st in the next st; repeat from * 30 times, work 2 sts (157 sts).

Change to size 2 needles, work in pattern.

First row-K 2, * slip 1 as to p, k 3; repeat from *, ending slip 1, k 2.

2nd row-Purl.

Repeat these 2 rows until 11 ½ ins. from lower edge.

ARMHOLES-Bind off 11 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st each side every 2nd row 9 times (117 sts). Work even until 6 ½ ins. above underarm.

SHOULDERS-Bind off 5 sts at beginning of each of next 10 rows, 4 sts at beginning of each of next 6 rows (37 sts for each shoulder). Bind off 43 sts.

LEFT FRONT-With size 0 needles cast on 76 sts.

First row- * P 2, k 2; repeat from * to end of row. Repeat first row until same length as on back to increase row.

Increase row-Continuing ribbing, work 7 sts, increase 1 st in next st, * work 2 sts, increase 1 st in next st; repeat from * 19 times, work 8 sts (97 sts ).

Change to size 2 needles, work pattern as on back until same length as back to underarm, ending with a p row.

ARMHOLE-Bind off 11 sts at beginning of next row for underarm. Decrease 1 st at underarm edge every 2nd row 9 times (77 sts). Work until 6 inches above underarm, ending at front edge.

NECK AND SHOULDER SHAPING-Bind off 22 sts at front for neck edge. Decrease 1 st at neck edge every row until 7 ins. above underarm.

Shape shoulder as for back at beginning of rows worked from armhole edge, continuing to decrease at neck edge every row until 18 sts in all have been decreased.

RIGHT FRONT-With size 0 needles cast on 76 sts.

First row- * K 2, p 2; repeat from * to end of row. Work ribbing for 1 ½ ins.

Next row-Work 4 sts in ribbing, bind off next 6 sts for buttonhole, finish row. On following row, cast on 6 sts over bound off sts.

Continue in ribbing until same length to increase row on left front.

Increase row-Work as for left front.

Change needles and work pattern until 4 ½ ins. from lower edge, ending on wrong side.

Next row (right side)-Work 4 sts, bind off next 5 sts for 2nd buttonhole, finish row. Next row cast on 5 sts over bound-off sts.

Work to correspond to left front, repeating 2nd buttonhole every 35th and 36th row (about every 3 ins.) until there are 6 buttonholes in all, binding off for armhole at beginning of a p row and for neck edge at beginning of a k row (6th buttonhole should be about ¾ in. below neck edge). Finish to correspond to left front.

SLEEVES-With size 2 needles cast on 101 sts for lower edge. Work pattern as for back for ½ in. Increase 1 st each side; repeat increases every ½ in. 7 times keeping pattern (117 sts). Work even until 4 ½ ins. from lower edge. Bind off 11 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st each side every 4th row 15 times.

Bind off 4 sts at beginning of each of next 8 rows. Bind off 33 sts.

POCKETS-With size 2 needles cast on 31 sts. Work in pattern as follows: First row- * K 3, slip 1; repeat from *, ending k 3.

2nd row-Purl.

Repeat these 2 rows until 3 ½ ins. from lower edge. Bind off.

FINISHING-Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with sleeve seam at center underarm, holding in extra fullness at top. Work 2 rows of s c on front edges and around neck edge, beginning both rows at lower edge of right front, working 3 s c in corner sts and decreasing 1 st at each side of neck edge at shoulder seam.

Work a row of s c around 4 sides of each pocket, working 3 s c in each corner st. Work 2 rows of s c around lower edge of sleeves keeping edge flat. Work buttonholes in buttonhole st.

Steam, taking care not to stretch ribbing. Steam pockets separately. Place a pocket on each front with lower edge 7 ½ ins. above ribbing and s c row on side of pocket over 4th slip st stripe from armhole edge. Sew to fronts. Sew buttons on left front.
