Shrug Pattern No. 3794

These directions are for size 12. Changes for sizes 14 and 16 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS
BERNAT Nylo Germantown (2 oz. skeins) — 4(4-5)
1 pair straight knitting needles No. 10 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLE WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE BELOW
1 aluminum crochet hook No. 5/F

GAUGE: 9 sts = 2 inches; 6 rows = 1 inch

PATTERN STITCH: Multiple of 4 sts.
Rows 1 and 2: * K 2, P 2, repeat from * across row.
Rows 3 and 4: * P 2, K 2, repeat from * across row.
Repeat these 4 rows for pattern stitch.

BACK: Cast on 4 sts. Working in pattern st, at the beg of each of the next 18(20-22) rows cast on 2 sts. At the beg of each of the next 10 rows cast on 4 sts. Work even on 80(84-88) sts until piece measures 2½ inches above last group of cast on sts. SHAPE SLEEVES: At the beg of each of the next 12 rows cast on 2 sts. At the beg of each of the next 2 rows cast on 8 sts. Work even on 120(124-128) sts until sleeves measure 6¼(6½-6¾)  inches above last group of cast on sts. Put a marker in work to mark center of sleeves. SHAPE NECK: Work 48(50-52) sts; join another ball of yarn and bind off center 24 sts; work last 48(50-52) sts. Work even on both sides at once until sleeves measure 5(5¼-5½) inches above marker in work. SHAPE FRONTS: At each front edge dec 1 st and repeat this dec every other row 3 times more. SHAPE FRONT SLEEVES: Continuing to dec 1 st at each front edge every other row 5 times more and to bind off 4 sts 4 times, at each arm edge bind off 8 sts once and 2 sts 6 times. Work even on 3(5-7) sts of each side until piece measures 2½ inches above last group of bound off sts at underarm. Bind off.

FINISHING: Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Work 2 rows s c around entire shrug. FRINGE: Cut yarn 2 inches long. Knot 2 strands of yarn in each st around entire shrug and on sleeves. Block.
