Giant Rib Pattern

MATERIALS: BEAR BRAND, FLEISHER'S or BOTANY SUPRA MOHAIR (Imported, Brushed), 2 balls; with any one of the following yarns:
BEAR BRAND or FLEISHER'S FOUR SEASONS YARN or BOTANY JIFFY, 3, 2 oz. skeins; or BEAR BRAND BULKY-KNIT, FLEISHER'S BULKY FLEECE or BOTANY KWILTEE, 3, 2 oz. skeins.

KNITTING NEEDLES: 1 pair "Boye" 14-inch Needles, Size 11—or size you require to knit to gauge given below.

GAUGE: 3 sts = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch—After blocking.

POM-PON—Make pom-pon with yarn only as follows: Untie skein, but do not wind into ball; cut off about 1 yd. of yarn to tie pom-pon. Fold skein in half once; fold again in half and tie tightly at. center, leaving ends for sew­ing. Cut loops and trim ends neatly.
Using 1 strand each of Mohair and other yarn, cast on 66 sts.
Row 1right side—* K 1, p 1; repeat from * to end. Repeat this row for ribbing for 10½ ins., end with row worked on wrong side.
First dec. rowright side—* K 1, k 2 tog., p 1, slip, k and pass; repeat from * to end; 44 sts.
Next row—* P 1, k 1; repeat from * to end. Repeat this row twice more.
2nd dec. rowright side—K 2 tog., * p 1, slip, k and pass, k 1, k 2 tog.; repeat from * to end; 29 sts.
Next row—P 3, * k 1, p 3; repeat from *, end k 1, p 1.
3rd dec. rowright side—K 1, * k 2 tog.; repeat from * to end; 15 sts. Cut yarn, leaving a 24-in. end.

FINISHING—Run end through all sts and slip sts from needle. Draw up tight and run yarn through all sts again. Sew side edges tog., sewing through st at end of every row. Block, stretching to 11 ins. in width—22 ins. around—or de­sired headsize. Sew pom-pon to top of hat as illustrated.
