Knitted Star Beret Pattern #22

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knitting & Crochet Cotton, 1 ball. 5 knitting needles size 11, 12, or 13, double point.

   To begin, cast on 2 sts on each of 3 needles, close ring and work around. 1st rnd: K 1, thread over for an increase, and repeat all around. 2nd and all even rnds (until otherwise specified): K plain. 3rd rnd: K 2, thread over for an increase, and repeat all around. 5th rnd: K 3, thread over, and repeat all around. 7th rnd: K 4, thread over, and repeat all around. Continue increas­ing in this manner, until there are 14 sts in each sec­tion, which completes the 26th rnd. 27th rnd: K 14, thread over, and repeat all around. 28th rnd: K 14, * thread over, k 1, thread over, sl 1 st (transfer st with­out working it), k 1, pass sl st over k st, k 12, and repeat from * 5 times, the 5th time omitting the k 12. 29th and all uneven rnds hereafter: K plain. 30th rnd: K 13 * thread over, k 1, thread over, sl 1 st, k 1, pass st over, thread over, sl 1 st, k 1, pass st over, k 11, and repeat from * 5 times, the 5th time omitting k 11. 32nd rnd: K 12, * thread over, k 1, thread over, sl 1 st, k 1, pass st over, k 10, and repeat from * 5 times, the 5th time omitting the k 10. Continue in this manner decreasing the k sts until there are only 2 k sts in each section (plus the lace sts) which completes the 52nd rnd. 53rd rnd: K plain (162 sts in rnd) and add another needle, dividing the sts evenly. 54th rnd: P 1, k 1, and continue around. In next rnd reverse by knitting over the purl and purling over the knit. Con­tinue in this way for 2 inches. Work 1 inch in p st for the finishing band. Turn half of the band inside and sew. Make a tuck of ¼ inch in depth on one side of beret and about 1 inch from bottom of beret, leaving 6 inches untucked and sloping the ends of the tuck.
