BLOUSE

This blouse starts at bottom of front, is worked up to shoulders and continued down the back.

Lining for Pocket: It is wise to have this made, ready to be worked into the front. Cast on 22 sts and work in stockinette st for 3 inches. Then slip sts on a stitch holder.

Starting at bottom of front, with No. 1 needles cast on 104 sts and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2, for 4 inches. Then change to No. 3 needles and work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) until work measures 9½ inches from top of waistband.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 5 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then decrease 1 st at end of each row until 90 sts remain. On next k row, k first 14 sts, then work in ribbing of p 2, k 2 across next 22 sts for pocket, and k across remaining 54 sts. Work straight in stockinette, but keeping the 22 sts of pocket in ribbing until ribbing measures ¾ inch, ending with a p row. Next row: K across first 14 sts, bind off the 22 sts of pocket, k across remaining 54 sts. Following row: P across 54 sts, then p across the 22 sts of pocket lining, p across remaining 14 sts (90 sts). Work in stockinette, until work measures 5 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. Then on next k row, k across first 27 sts, bind off 36 sts (for front of neck), k across remaining 27 sts. Work over these last 27 sts for 1½ inches, keeping both edges straight, ending with a k row. Break off. Attach yarn to opposite side of neck edge, and work other shoulder to correspond, ending with a p row. Do not break off, but cast on 36 sts (for back of neck), p across next 27 sts. Work in stockinette for 6 more inches. Then increase 1 st at end of each row until there are 94 sts on needle. Then cast on 5 sts at end of each of next 2 rows (104 sts). Work remainder of back to correspond with front. Bind off.

Sleeves. Starting at bottom, with No. 1 needles cast on 76 sts and work in ribbing for 1¼ inches. Change to No. 3 needles and work in stockinette st until work measures 3 inches from top of ribbing. To shape top of sleeve, bind off 5 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then decrease 1 st at end of each row until 28 sts remain. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of each row until 12 sts remain. Bind off.

Neck Band. Holding right side of work toward you, with No. 1 needles pick up 44 sts across back of neck edge from one shoulder to the other. Work in ribbing for ¾ inch. Bind off loosely. Then pick up 60 sts along remainder of neck edge, and work in ribbing for ¾ inch. Bind off loosely. Sew back and front neck bands together on wrong side. After work has been blocked, sew up side seams. Sew sleeves seams and sew sleeves in.

Bell. With No. 3 needles, cast on 14 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 1½ yds. Bind off.

SKIRT

Starting at bottom, with circular needle cast on 308 sts and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 1 inch. Hereafter work in stockinette (k each rnd) until work measures 2 inches in all. * On next rnd decrease 10 sts at regular intervals. Work straight for 4 inches. Repeat from * until 258 sts remain. Then decrease 10 sts at regular intervals on next rnd and every inch thereafter until 198 sts remain. Work straight until skirt measures 29 inches or desired length. Bind off.
