MATERIALS REQUIRED. American Thread Company “Clover Leaf” or “Dawn” Shetland Floss or “Clover Leaf” Lustre Wool.
40—1 oz. Balls. White or any Color desired.
1 pr. #6 Bone Knitting Needles. 14 inches long.
Gauge: 5 stitches—1 inch, 7 rows—1 inch.
The entire coat is worked in two strands of Wool.
BACK. Cast on 130 sts, K 22 rows (11 ribs) * Purl 1 row, K 1 row, repeat from *. K 8 rows (4 ribs).
* P 1 row, K 1 row, repeat from *. K 22 rows (11 ribs).
Begin Pattern. 1st and 2nd Rows. K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, repeat to end of row. K 1 row, P 1 row.
5th and 6th Rows. P 1, K 1, P 1, K 1, repeat to end of row. K 1 row, P 1 row. These 8 rows form the pattern and are repeated throughout the Coat. Work 2 inches even. Decrease one st each side every 1½ inches 12 times keeping the pattern straight. Work even until back measures 29 inches to underarm.
Next 2 Rows bind off 4 sts at the beginning of each row. Decrease one st at the beginning of each row until 28 sts remain, bind off for back of neck.
LEFT FRONT. Cast on 80 sts, K 22 rows (11 ribs) * P 1 row, K 1 row, repeat from *. K 8 rows (4 ribs) * P 1 row, K 1 row, repeat from *. K 22 rows (11 ribs). Work pattern same as back always knitting 32 sts at the front edge, (16 sts are for the turnback and 16 for the border) and decreasing at underarm same as back. When front measures 37 inches from beginning, K 9 sts on facing, slip these sts on a stitch holder, bind off 14 sts. Continue to decrease at armhole same as back and decrease one st every other row at neck side 6 times. Work even at neck side, until all sts are worked off for shoulder. Pick up the 9 facing sts, continue to work outside edge straight and decrease one st at neck every other row until all sts are worked off. Work other front to correspond reversing the border.
SLEEVE. Cast on 78 sts. K 40 rows (20 ribs). Begin pattern. Work 1 inch even. Increase one st every 10th row 7 times. Work even until sleeve measures 17 inches. Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of next 2 rows. Decrease one st at the beginning of every row until all sts are worked off.
COLLAR. Cast on 85 sts and K 50 rows (25 ribs) bind off. Sew sleeves in position, sew underarms and attach collar. Finish with flat buckle or buttons and loops.
