The simplest of stitches for practice knitting is the garter stitch. A very useful article can be made so that these practice minutes can be used to good advantage.

Materials: J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord, 1 ball of color 123 Salmon Pink and 1 ball of White. Bone knitting needles size 1.

The above amount of materials is suffi­cient for a set consisting of a center­piece 15 inches square; 4 place doilies, 12 inches square; 4 bread and butter plate doilies, 6 inches square; and 4 glass doilies, 4 inches square.

Cast on 8 sts. K for 14½ inches. Bind off.

Apple Cord Holder

Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"DAWN" ANTI-SHRINK, ANTI-MATTING SOCK YARN

"STAR" PEARL COTTON, Article 90, size 5
1 ball Lt. Emerald

Steel crochet hook No. 7.

With Scarlet cast on 32 sts and work in garter st (K each row) for 74 rows, bind off. Sew 2 short ends together, gather one end tightly for top of apple, insert ball of cord and draw elastic or yarn through opposite end and fasten, leaving an opening for end of cord.

Knitted Dusting Mitt

Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" BLEND YARN, Article 75
1 skein National Blue or any color desired. 
1 skein Cerise or any contrasting color. 
1 pr. each Knitting needles No. 4 and No. 6. 
Steel crochet hook No. 0.

With National Blue and No. 4 needles cast on 36 sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 2 ¼ inches. Change to No. 6 needles and K across row increasing 4 sts evenly spaced.
