Bonbon Doily Pattern

MATERIALS:

J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 4 balls of a variegated, or self-shad­ing color.
Milward's Casein Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 1 (2½ mm. size) and 1 pair No. 4 (3½ mm. size).

The above amount of materials is suffi­cient for a set consisting of a center­piece 15 inches square; 4 place doilies, 12 inches square; 4 bread and butter plate doilies, 6 inches square; and 4 glass doilies, 4 inches square.

CENTERPIECE … With No. 1 needles, cast on 108 sts, loosely. K 4 rows. Next row: (1st row of Pattern Stitch). K 3, turn, k 3, turn. Change to No. 4 needle, k 4, thread over, k 1. Repeat from * across to last 4 sts, thread over, k 4. 2nd row: Change to No. 1 needle, k 3, turn, k 3, turn, k 3, * p 1, drop the thread over. Repeat from * across to last 4 sts, p 1, k 3 (wide row made). 3rd row: With No. 1 needle k across. 4th row: With No. 1 needle k 3, p across to last 3 sts, k 3. Repeat the last 4 rows for pattern until piece measures about 14½ inches in all (26 wide rows), ending with the 2nd row of Pattern Stitch. Next row: K 3, p across to last 3 sts, k 3. Repeat the last row 3 more times. Bind off loosely, purling all stitches.

PLACE DOILIES (Make 4) … With No. 1 needles, cast on 86 sts, loosely. Work as for Centerpiece until piece measures about 11½ inches in all (20 wide rows), ending with the 2nd row of Pattern Stitch. Finish as for Center­piece.

BREAD AND BUTTER PLATE DOILIES (Make 4) … With No. 1 needles, cast on 44 sts, loosely. Work as for Centerpiece, until piece measures about 5½ inches in all (10 wide rows), ending with the 2nd row of Pattern Stitch. Finish as for Center­piece.

GLASS DOILIES (Make 4) … With No. 1 needles cast on 30 sts, loosely. Work as for Centerpiece, until piece measures about 3½ inches in all (6 wide rows), ending with the 2nd row of Pattern Stitch. Finish as for Center­piece.

FINISHING … Starch and pin out pieces to measurements given. Press until dry.

NOTE: The 1st row of Pattern Stitch in CENTERPIECE appears to have an error. There is an instruction to repeat from * across, but the original * is missing from the original pattern. If someone makes this pattern and figures out where the original * belongs, please let me know!
