Medium: 5-7 Year

MATERIALS: Bear Brand or Fleisher’s Twin Pak Win-Knit; or Bear Brand or Fleisher’s Twin-Pak Knitting Worsted, Main Color A, 2 ozs.

About 20 yards each of Yellow B, Green C, and Red D.

“Boye” Sock Needles, 1 set Size 3.

GAUGE: 13 sts = 2 inches

RIGHT MITTEN: With A, cast on 36 sts. Divide on 3 needles, join. Mark end of rounds. Work k 2, p 2 ribbing for 3 ins. K 2 rounds. Begin pat. As follows:

Round 1: * K A, 2 B; repeat from * around.

Round 2: * K 1 B, 2 A; repeat from * around.

Continue to follow chart, until 10 rounds of pat. are completed.

Divide for thumb: With strand of contrasting color thread, k next 6 sts, slip them back to left hand needle, with regular yarn k them again, k to end of round. Continue to follow chart until pat. is completed. With A, k 2 rounds.

First dec. round: * K 2, k 2 tog.; repeat from * around; 27 sts. K 2 rounds.

2nd dec. round: * K 1, k 2 tog.; repeat from * around; 18 sts. K 1 round.

3rd dec. round: K 2 tog. 9 times; 9 sts. Break off leaving an end. Draw end twice through remaining sts. Fasten off.

Thumb: Draw out colored thread and pick up 6 sts each side; place these 12 sts on 3 needles. Join A in first st on upper needle, from right side, k 1 round picking up 1 st at inner edge of thumb at end of round; 13 sts.

K 2 ins. even decreasing 1 st st end of last round; 12 sts.

Dec. round: K 2 tog. 6 times; 6 sts. Finish as for top of mitten.

LEFT MITTEN: Work same as right mitten until 10 rounds of pat. are completed.

Divide for thumb: Work to within 6 sts of end of round.

With strand of contrasting color thread, k next 6 sts, slip them back to left hand needle, with regular yarn k them again. Finish left mitten to correspond to right mitten. Steam.
