Chadwick's Red Heart Sock and Sweater Yarn, 3 Ply, Art. E.255, Shrink and Stretch Resist, 3 skeins (1 oz. pull-out skeins) of Scarlet for Size 12; 4 skeins for Sizes 14 and 16; 3 skeins of Skipper Blue and 1 skein of White for all sizes.
Milwards “Phantom” Aluminum Knitting Pins or Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 3 (3 mm. size).
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2.
Buttons. Bobbins.

GAUGE: 7 sts make 1 inch; 9 rows make 1 inch.

NOTE: Vertical stripes are omitted on chart, to be worked later. When carrying unused color across, twist it around the other to prevent mak­ing holes, being careful not to pull yarn up too tightly.

Wind 1 bobbin of Scarlet. On Sizes 12 and 14, wind 4 bobbins of Skipper Blue; Size 16, wind 5 bobbins of Skipper Blue.

LEFT FRONT … Starting at lower edge with a bobbin of Scarlet, cast on 2 sts and work in pattern as follows: 1st row: K across. 2nd row: P across, increasing 1 st in each st. 3rd row: Inc 1 st in first st, k 2, inc 1 st in last st. 4th row: Inc 1 st in first st, p 4, inc 1 st in last st, drop Scarlet. 5th row: Attach a ball of White, with White inc 1 st in first st, p 1, k 5, inc 1 st in last st. 6th row: With White, inc 1 st in first st, p 6, k 1, p 1, inc 1 st in last st.    Starting with the 11th row follow chart for pattern, keeping the knit and purl sts as established and increasing as indicated on chart until the 16th row is completed. 17th row: With right side facing and Skipper Blue p 1, (k 16, p 1) twice; inc 1 st in last st. Continue to follow chart until the 24th row is completed. 25th row: On Sizes 12 and 14, follow chart. On Size 16 only, with Scarlet k 3, p 1,  k 4, drop Scarlet, * with Skipper Blue k 2, drop Skipper Blue, (with Scarlet, k 1, drop Scarlet, with Skipper Blue k 2) twice; drop Skipper Blue, with Scarlet k 4, p 1, k 4. Repeat from * 2 more times. Continue to follow chart until top of chart is reached. Then, keeping continuity of pattern, repeat from A to B, increasing 1 st at side edge every

RIGHT FRONT … Work as for Left Front, reversing shapings and chart, and making a buttonhole 3 sts in from front edge on the first White stripe after last inc at front edge and every White stripe thereafter until 6 buttonholes in all are made—to make a buttonhole, on one row bind off 3 sts and on next row cast on 3 sts to replace those bound off.

SLEEVE BINDING … With Skip­per Blue, cast on 12 sts. 1st row: P across. 2nd row: Inc 1 st in first st, k across to last 2 sts, k 2 tog. Repeat these 2 rows until piece is long enough to go around armhole edge. Bind off.

OUTER EDGE BINDING … Work as for Sleeve Binding until piece is long enough to go around all outer edges. Bind off.

VERTICAL STRIPES … With crochet hook and 2 strands of White, make a row of chain st in each of the purl rib sts.

Sew in all ends securely on wrong side. Block to measurements. Sew up side and shoulder seams. Sew on bind­ing. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
