REQUIREMENTS:

YARN: 3 ounces Knitting Worsted, ½-oz. green for leaves, ½-oz. rose for flower.

NEEDLES: 1-pr. #3 Single Pointed.

CROCHET HOOK: 1-bone #3.

THUMB SEPARATION: Knit and place onto a stitch holder

Knit and leave on the knitting needle
Place the remaining sts onto a 2nd st holder. Cast on 1 st at the end of these thumb sts; turn and purl across, cast on 1 st.
Work on these sts in stockinette stitch for

DECREASES FOR ALL SIZES: * K 3 sts; k 2 tog, repeat from * across. Purl across next row. 2nd dec: * K 2 sts; k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Purl across next row. K 2 sts tog., across next row. Break yarn leaving 10 ins. Draw thru the remaining sts and fasten on the wrong side. Sew up thumb.
Place the sts from the first st holder, back onto needle

Tie yarn in the first st, pick up and knit along thumb

DECREASES FOR THE TIP OF THE MITTEN:

1st dec: * K 6, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. P 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row.

2nd dec: * K 5, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. P 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row.

3rd dec: * K 4 sts; k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Purl 1 row.

4th dec: * K 3 sts; k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Purl 1 row.

5th dec: * K 2 sts; k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Purl 2 sts together across the row. Break the yarn, leaving 14 inches and finish as the top of the thumb. Sew up the side.

TRIMMING: Flower-Using the color, Chain 5 sts, join with a slip st to form a ring. 1st round-Chain 3 sts, make 4 d c into the ring; slip the loop off the hook, insert in top of chain and pull loop thru. * Ch 3, 5 d c into the ring, slip loop off hook and insert in the first d c and pulI loop thru, repeat from * 3 times; chain 3 sts, join with a slip st to first popcorn. 2nd row-In each of the chain 3 loops on row below do the following: 1 slip st, 1 h d c; 1 d c; 2 trebles; 1 d c; 1 h d c; 1 slip st; repeat in each of the 5 loops. Break thread. Make one more.

LEAF-Ch. 8 sts; skip first st, make 1 s c into next 2 chains; 1 d c in next 5 sts. 2nd row-Ch. 1, turn and work 1 s c in next 7 sts; 3 s c into last st; 1 s c in each foundation chain to end of row. Break thread, leave enough to sew with. Make 3 more. Sew onto mittens the flower and leaf as in illustration.
