Boys 2-Piece Suit Pattern

SIZE 2 YEARS

MATERIALS REQUIRED
American Thread Company "Dawn" Shetland Floss
4 Balls Dk. Blue or any color desired
1 Ball White or any contrasting Color
1 Pr. Bone Knitting Needles #1
1 Steel Crochet Hook #7 or 8

Width across back of sweater 9 inches
Length of Sweater 14 inches
Sleeve length at underarm 11 inches
Length of pants through center 8½ inches
Width across widest part 10½ inches

Gauge
8 sts = 1 inch; 10 rows = 1 inch

BACK. With Dk Blue cast on 90 sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 1½ inches. Remainder of sweater is worked in stockinette st, (K 1 row, P 1 row).
When work measures 2½ inches work as follows:
4 Rows White, 2 rows Blue, 2 rows White, 2 rows Blue, 4 rows White, 2 rows Blue, 4 rows White, 2 rows Blue, 2 rows White, 2 rows Blue, 4 rows White.
Continue in Blue until back measures 9½ inches from beginning.
Next 2 Rows bind off 4 sts at the beginning of each row then decrease 1 st each side every other row 5 times.
Work even until armhole measures 5 inches from the 1st decreasing point.
Next 8 Rows. Bind off 5 sts at the beginning of each row and bind off remaining sts for back of neck.
FRONT. Work same as back until armhole measures 3½ inches.
Next Row. K 27, bind off 18 sts for neck and continue work on remaining 27 sts, decreasing 1 st every 2nd row 7 times at neck edge. When armhole measures 5 inches from the 1st decreasing point, bind off shoulder same as back. Work other side to correspond.
SLEEVES. Cast on 40 sts and work in ribbing for 2 inches. Continue in stockinette st.
Next Row, increase 1 st each end then increase 1 st each end every ½ inch 9 times. Work even until sleeve measures 11 inches.
Next 2 Rows. Decrease 4 sts at the beginning of each row.
Next 36 Rows. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of each row and bind off remaining sts.
Sew Seams. Sew sleeves in position. Pick up 30 sts across back of neck and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for ½ inch, bind off loosely. Pick up 68 sts on front of neck and work ½ inch of ribbing. Sew seams of band.
If desired, leave left side of shoulder seam and band open and fasten with snaps.
PANTS. Cast on 78 sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 1 inch.
Next Row. K 40, P 8, K 30.
Next Row purl across row. Continue work in stockinette st, carrying the purled stripe for entire leg.
Next 9 Rows. Increase 1 st each side of each row and continue even until work measures 3 inches from the beginning.
Next Row. Decrease 1 st each side and decrease 1 st each side every ½ inch 6 times then decrease 1 st each side every inch twice. When work measures 8½ inches from beginning K 40, turn, purl back, K 30 turn, Purl back. K 20, turn, Purl back, K 10, turn, Purl back then work across all sts in ribbing for 1½ inches, bind off. Work other leg to correspond reversing the stripe by starting 1st pattern row with K 30, P 8, K 40 and beginning the shaping with P 40, K back.
Casing for elastic (Inside at waistline). Join yarn, * ch 5, sl st in next rib ½ inch below, ch 5, sl st in next rib ½ inch above, repeat from * all around.
