These directions are for Size 12. Changes for Sizes 14, 16, 18 and 20 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Calibrette (2 oz skein) OR Columbia-Minerva Calibar (2 oz skein) 11(12-13-14-15) skeins

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each of "Boye" Sizes 6 and 8 – 14 inch

Gauge: 4 sts and 4 ½ rows to 1 inch (stockinette st - Size 8 needles) 1 pattern measures 2 ½ inches

BLOCKING MEASUREMENTS:
Width across Back at underarm 17"(18"-19"-20"-21")
Width across Each Front at underarm 10"(10 ½"-11"-11 ½"--12")
Length from back of neck to lower edge 18 ½"(19"-20"-21"-21 ½")
Width of Sleeve at upperarm 12 ½"(13"-13 ½"-14"-14 ½")

BACK: With Size 6 needles cast on 69(73-77-81-85) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 6 rows. Change to Size 8 needles and work in pattern st as follows: Row 1 - (Right side of work) K 3(K 1,P 1,K 3 - K 3,P 1,K 3 - K 5,P 1,K 3 - 0), * P 1, K 6, P 1, K 3, repeat from * across row, ending 0(P1,K1 - P1,K3 - P1,K5 - P1,K6,P1). Row 2 - P 3(P 1,K 1,P 3 - P 3,K 1,P 3 - P 5,K 1,P 3 - 0), * K 1, P 6, K 1, P 3, repeat from * across row, ending 0(K 1,P 1 - K 1,P 3 - K 1,P 5 - K 1,P 6,K 1). Rows 3 and 4 - Same as Rows 1 and 2. Row 5 (Cable Row) - K 3(K 1,P 1,K 3 - K 3,P 1,K 3 - K 5,P 1,K 3 - 0), * P 1, sl next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in back of work, K next 3 sts, then K the 3 sts from cable needle (cable twist), P 1, K 3, repeat from * across row, ending 0(P 1,K 1 - P 1,K 3 - P 1,K 5 - P 1, cable twist, P 1). Row 6 - Same as Row 2. Rows 7 and 8 - Same as Rows 1 and 2. Repeat these 8 rows for pattern, being careful to keep pattern even after inc's or dec's. Next row (Row 9) inc 1 st each side, then every 6th row 6 times more - 83(87-91-95-99) sts on needle. Work even until work measures 9 ½ (9 ½"-10"-10"-10 ½") or desired length to underarm. To Shape Raglan Armholes: Bind off 5(5-6-6-7) sts at beg of each of the next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every row 2(2-1-0-2) times as follows: To Decrease: On right side of work - K 1, K 2 tog through back of sts, work across row in pattern to within last 3 sts, K 2 tog through front of sts, K 1. On wrong side of work - P 1, P 2 tog as usual, work across row in pattern to within last 3 sts, P 2 tog through front of sts (from other side of work), P 1. All dec's are worked in this manner except for front border. Now dec 1 st each side every other row (on right side of work only) until 23(25-25-27-27) sts remain, bind off.

LEFT FRONT: With Size 6 needles cast on 37(39-41-43-45) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 6 rows. Change to Size 8 needles and work in pattern st as follows: Row 1 - K 1(K 3 - K 1,P 1,K 3 - K 3,P 1,K 3 - K 5,P 1,K 3), * P 1, K 6, P 1, K 3, repeat from * once more, ending P 1, K 6, P 1, K 6 for front border. Row 2 - P 6, K 1, P 6, K 1, * P 3, K 1, P 6, K 1, repeat from * once more, ending P 1(P 3 - P 3,K 1,P 1 - P 3,K 1,P 3 - P 3,K 1,P 5). Rows 3 and 4 - Same as Rows 1 and 2. Row 5 - K 1(K 3 - K 1,P 1,K 3 - K 3,P 1,K 3 - K 5,P 1,K 3), * P 1, twist cable on next 6 sts as on Back, P 1, K 3, repeat from * once more, ending P 1, twist cable, P 1, K 6. Row 6 - Same as Row 2. Rows 7 and 8 - Same as Rows 1 and 2. Repeat these 8 rows for pattern. Next row (Row 9) inc 1 st at side edge, then every 6th row 6 times more - 44(46-48-50-52) sts on needle. When work measures same as Back to underarm, shape Raglan Armhole and Neck Edge at the same time as follows: At Side Edge bind off 5(5-6-6-7) sts, then dec 1 st every row 2(2-1-0-2) times, then every other row 24(25-27--29-28) times (dec in same manner as on Back, 1 st in from edge); At Neck Edge dec 1 st at inside of front border, then every 3rd row 12(13-13-14-14) times more. (To dec at inside of left front border on right side of work - work to within last 8 sts, K 2 tog through back of sts, K 6. To dec at inside of left front border on wrong side of work - P 6, P 2 tog as usual). Place markers for 5 buttons at left front edge, having first marker ½ inch from lower edge and 5th marker at start of neck shaping.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with Left Front, having inc's and dec's at opposite sides and working pattern as follows: Row 1 - K 6 (front border), P 1, K 6, P 1, * K 3, P 1, K 6, P 1, repeat from * once more, ending K 1(K 3 - K 3,P 1,K 1 - K 3,P 1,K 3 - K 3,P 1,K 5). Row 2 - P1(P3 - P1,K1,P3 - P3,K1,P3 - P5,K1,P3), * K1, P 6, K 1, P 3, repeat from * once more, ending K 1, P 6, K 1, P 6. Continue pattern in this manner, working buttonholes to correspond with markers by K 2, bind off 3 sts, work to end of row. On next row cast on 3 sts over bound-off sts.

SLEEVES: With Size 6 needles cast on 36(36-40-40-44) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 6 rows. Change to Size 8 needles and work in pattern st as follows: Row 1 - K 3(K3 - K1,P1,K3 - K1,P1,K3 - K3,P1,K3), * P 1, K 6, P 1, K 3, repeat from * 2 times more, ending 0(0 - P1,K1 - P1,K1 - P1,K3). Row 2 - 0(0 - P1,K1 - P 1,K 1 - P 3,K 1), * P 3, K 1, P 6, K 1, repeat from * 2 times more, ending P 3(P 3 - P 3,K 1,P 1 - P 3,K 1,P 1 - P 3,K 1,P 3). Continue in pattern, twisting cables on Row 5, then every 8th row as before, inc 1 st each side on 6th row of pattern, then every 6th row 7 times more, then every 10th row 2(3-2-3-2) times - 56(58-60-62-64) sts on needle. When Sleeve measures 14"(14 ½"-14 ½"-15"-15") or desired length from start, To Shape Raglan Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 5(5-6-6-7) sts at beg of each of the next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every 4th row 2(2-3-4-4) times, then every other row until 2 sts remain, bind off.

COLLAR: Right half - With Size 8 needles cast on 50(56-62-68-74) sts. Work in stockinette st for 2 rows. Next row dec as follows: Row 1 - K 1, K 2 tog through front of sts, K across to within last 3 sts, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 1. Row 2 - P. Repeat these 2 rows until 3 sts remain, bind off. Work left half of Collar to correspond, reversing dec's (at beg of row K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, at end of row K 2 tog through front of sts).

Sew Sleeves to Fronts and Back. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Sew Collar to neck edge, from center back of neck to first dec row at front edge. Face front edges with grosgrain ribbon, working around buttonholes.
