VEST - Number 731-4A

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Calibrette (2 oz skein) OR Columbia-Minerva Calibar (2 oz skein) - 8(8-9-9-10) skeins

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each of "Boye" Sizes 9 and 10 ½ - 14 inch

Gauge: 7 sts to 2 inches, 5 rows to 1 inch (Size 10 ½ needles)

1 "Boye" Aluminum Crochet Hook "G" (Size 5)

BLOCKING MEASUREMENTS:
Width across Back at underarm 17 ¾"(18 ¾"-20"-21"-22 ¼")
Width across Back above armhole shaping 13 ¾"(14 ¾"-15 ½"-16 ½"-17 ¼")
Width across Each Front at lower edge 11 ½"(12"-12 ½"-13 ¼"-13 ¾")
Length from back of neck to start 22 ½"(22 ½"-23 ½"-23 ½"-24")

BACK: With Size 9 needles cast on 62(66-70-74-78) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 1 inch. Change to Size 10 ½ needles and work in pattern st as follows: Row 1 - (Right side of work) K 2, * P 2, K 2, repeat from * across. Row 2 - P 2, * K 2, P 2, repeat from * across. Row 3 - Same as Row 2. Row 4 - Same as Row 1. Repeat these 4 rows for pattern st. Work even until work measures 14"(14"-14 ½"-14 ½"-14 ½") or desired length from start to underarm. To Shape Armholes: Bind off 4(4-5-5-6) sts at beg of each of the next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 3 times - 48(52-54-58-60) sts on needle. Work even until armholes measure 7 ½"(7 ½"-8"-8"-8 ½") or desired length, measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm. To Shape Shoulders: Bind off 5(6-6-6-7) sts at beg of each of the next 4(6-4-2-6) rows, then bind off 6(0-7-7-0) sts at beg of each of the next 2(0-2-4-0) rows. Bind off remaining sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT: With Size 9 needles cast on 40(42-44-46-48) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 1 inch. Change to Size 10 ½ needles and work in pattern st as follows: Row 1 - (Right side of work) 0(K 2-0-K 2-0), * P 2, K 2, repeat from * across. Row 2 - * P 2, K 2, repeat from * across, ending 0(P 2-0-P 2-0). Row 3 - 0(P 2-0-P 2-0), * K 2, P 2, repeat from * across. Row 4 - * K 2, P 2, repeat from * across, ending 0(K 2-0-K 2-0). Repeat these 4 rows for pattern st. When work measures 6 inches from start, To Shape Neck: Dec 1 st at front edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every 6th row 4(4-6-4-5) times more, then every 4th row 13(13-11-14-13) times AND AT THE SAME TIME when work measures same as Back to underarm, To Shape Armhole: Bind off 4(4-5-5-6) sts at side edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 2 times. When armhole measures same as at Back, To Shape Shoulder: Bind off 5(6-6-6-7) sts at armhole edge every other row 2(3-2-1-3) times, then bind off 6(0-7-7-0) sts every other row 1(0-1-2-0) times.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with Left Front, having decs at opposite sides and working first set of buttonholes on Row 3 of pattern st as follows: Work 4 sts, bind off 3 sts, work 10 sts, bind off 3 sts, work to end of row. On next row cast on 3 sts over each set of bound-off sts. When work measures 5 inches from start, work another set of buttonholes in same manner.

Sew shoulder seams. Sew underarm seams.

Work crocheted edging around armholes as follows: Row 1 - Sl st in first st, * ch 1, skip 1 st, sl st in next st, repeat from * around. Row 2 - * Ch 1, 1 sl st in ch of Row 1, repeat from * around. Cut yarn and fasten. Starting at lower right front edge, work Row 1 of edging up right front edge, around back of neck and down left front edge, cut yarn and fasten. Work Row 2 of edging in same manner, cut yarn and fasten.

SLIPOVER - Number 731-4B

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Fingering Yarn (1 oz skein) - 9(10-10-11-12) skeins

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each of "Boye" Sizes 1 and 3 - 14 inch and 1 set of "Boye" double point needles Size 1 - 7 inch

Gauge: 7 sts to 1 inch, 9 rows to 1 inch (Size 3 needles)

BLOCKING MEASUREMENTS:
Width across Back or Front at underarm 17 ½"(18 ½"-19 ½"-20 ½"-21 ½")
Width across Back or Front above armhole shaping 14 ½"(15 ½"-16 ¼" -17"-18")
Length from back of neck to lower edge 22"(22 ½"-22 ½"-23 ½"-23 ½")
Width across Sleeve at upperarm 13"(13 ¾"-14 ¼"-14 ¾"15 ½")

BACK: With Size 1 needles cast on 112(120-128-136-140) sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 1 ½ inches. Change to Size 3 needles and work in stockinette st. When work measures 4 ½ inches from start, inc 1 st each side, then inc 1 st each side every 1 ½ inches 4(4-3-3-4) times more - 122(130-136-144-150) sts on needle. Work even until work measures 13 ½"(13 ½"-13 ½"-14"-14") or desired length from start to underarm. To Shape Armholes: Bind off 4(4-4-5-5) sts at beg of each of the next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 6(7-7-7-7) times - 102(108-114-120-126) sts on needle. Work even until armholes measure 7 ½"(8"-8"-8 ½"-8 ½") measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm. To Shape Shoulders: Bind off 7(7-8-9-9) sts at beg of each of next 8(4-6-8-4) rows, then bind off 0(8-9-0-10) sts at beg of each of the next 0(4-2-0-4) rows. Sl remaining 46(48-48-48-50) sts onto st holder for back of neck.

FRONT: Work same as Back until armholes measure 4 ½"(5"-5"-5 ½"-5 ½") measured straight. To Shape Neck: Work across 66(70-73-76-80) sts, sl these sts onto st holder and on remaining 36(38-41-44-46) sts work as follows: Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 5 times - 28(30-33-36-38) sts on needle.

When armhole measures same as at Back, To Shape Shoulder: Bind off 7(7-8-9-9) sts at armhole edge every other row 4(2-3-4-2) times, then 0(8-9-0-10) sts every other row 0(2-1-0-2) times. Leaving 30(32-32-32-34) sts at center on st holder, work other side to correspond, reversing shaping.

SLEEVES: With Size 1 needles cast on 52(56-56-60-60) sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 3 inches. Change to Size 3 needles and work in stockinette st, inc 1 st each side, then inc 1 st each side every 6th row 17(19-15-15-12) times more, then every 4th row 2(0-6-6-11) times more - 92(96-100-104-108) sts on needle. When work measures 17"(17 ½"-17 ½"-17 ½"-18") or desired length from start to underarm, To Shape Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 4(4-4-5-5) sts at beg of each of the next 2 rows, then bind off 2 sts at beg of each of the next 6 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row until 36(36-42-36-42) sts remain. Bind off 3 sts at beg of each of the next 6(6-8-6-8) rows, then bind off remaining sts.

Sew shoulder seams.

TURTLE NECK: With double point needles, starting at right shoulder, pick up and K sts at neck edge on right side of work as follows: K across sts on st holder at back of neck, inc'ing 1 st in every 2nd st; pick up and K 33(32-32-32-33) sts at left neck edge; K across sts on st holder at front of neck, inc'ing 1 st in every 2nd st; pick up and K 33(32-32-32-33) sts at right neck edge - 180(184-184-184-192) sts on needles. Join and work around in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 7 inches, bind off in ribbing.

Sew Sleeves in place. Sew underarm and sleeve seams.
