Knitted Chair Set Pattern #7093

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton, 2 balls of French Rose and 1 ball of Ecru.
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 0 (2 mm. size).
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 5.

When completed, chair back measures about 15 inches wide and 10 inches deep (omitting points), and each arm rest about 7 x 10 inches.

Gauge: 8 sts make 1 inch; 12 rows make 1 inch.

Chair Back. Starting at top, with main color cast on 120 sts and work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) until piece measures 10 inches in all, ending with a p row. Then, to make point, k 7, turn and p 1, p 2 tog. (thus decreasing 1 st), p 4 (6 sts on right needle). Working on these 6 sts only, dec. 1 st at same side as before, every other row, until no sts remain. Break off. With right side of work toward you, attach thread at base of point, bind off next 16 sts and, working across next 14 sts only, make another point, decreasing 1 st at each side, every other row, until no sts remain. Break off. Continue across row, making points in this manner, binding off 16 sts between points and having last point correspond with first. Do not break off but work a row of s c all around edges. Break off.

Embroidery. With Ecru work a row of cross stitch across center of chair back, beginning and ending 1 inch in from side edges, and following outline of bottom edge (see illustration). Then make 2 rows of cross stitch, as in illustration, 2 inches from center row, one above and one below center row.

Fringe. Cut 3 strands of contrasting color, each 8 inches long, for each set of fringe, and knot one set at each point. Trim fringe evenly.

Arm Pieces. Cast on 60 sts and work in stockinette st until piece measures 10 inches in all. Then make 3 points as for chair back, having 7 sts for outer points and 14 sts for center point, and binding off 16 sts between points. Do not break off but work a row of s c all around edges. Break off.

Finish with fringe and embroidery as for chair back.
