Row 1—K. 3, * P. 1, K. 5, repeat from * across row, ending P. 1, K. 3.

Row 2—P. 3, * K. 1, P. 5, repeat from * across row, ending K. 1, P. 3.

Row 3—K. 2, * P. 1, K. 1, P. 1, K. 3, repeat from * across row, ending P. 1, K. 1, P. 1, K. 2.

Row 4—P. 2, * K. 1, P. 1, K. 1, P. 3, repeat from * across row, ending K. 1, P. 1, K. 1, P. 2.

Row 5—K. 1, * P. 1, K. 3, P. 1, K. 1, repeat from * across row.

All pieces of jacket and skirt are worked in this pattern, with Chestnut Featherdown on No. 1 Steel Needles.

JACKET: Back—Cast on 139 sts. and work even for 5 inches. Increase 1 st. each side, then increase 1 st. each side every ½ inch 10 more times, then every ¼ inch 4 times.

When work measures 12½ inches from start, work over 79 sts., bind off 11 sts., work across last 79 sts. Working on these last 79 sts., bind off 5 sts. every other row at inside edge, 4 times. Bind off 10 sts. at side edge for underarm, then work­ing decreases at inside edge and armhole edge at the same time, work as follows:

At armhole edge decrease 1 st. every other row 12 times; at inside edge decrease 1 st. every row 7 times, then 1 st. every 3rd row 20 times (10 sts. on needle). When work measures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off. Attach yarn to other 79 sts. and work to correspond.

Yoke for back—Cast on 103 sts. Increase 1 st. each side every row 30 times, then 1 st. each side every 5th row 11 times. When work measures 9½ inches from start, work over 20 sts., turn, bind off 5 sts., work across row. Working on these 15 sts., bind off 5 sts. from inside edge every other row 3 times. Attach yarn, work over 145 sts., turn, bind off 6 sts. Working on these 139 sts., bind off 6 sts. at the beginning of every row until 49 sts. remain, bind off. Attach yarn to last 20 sts. and bind off 5 sts. from inside edge every other row 4 times.

Right Front—Cast on 55 sts. Cast on 5 sts. at front edge every row 2 times, increase 1 st. on front edge every row 13 times, then increase 1 st. at front edge every 3rd row 7 times.

When work measures 4 inches from start, work­ing from front edge, work over 5 sts., bind off 10 sts. (buttonhole), work across row. Next row cast on 10 sts. over the bound off sts. Work an­other buttonhole in this manner 4 inches above first one.

When work measures 5 inches from start, increase 1 st. at underarm edge. Increase 1 st. on this edge every ½ inch 10 times, then every ¼ inch 4 times.

When work measures 11½ inches from start, bind off 21 sts. from front edge, then bind off 4 sts. from front edge every other row 3 times. Decrease 1 st. at front edge every row 18 times, then every 3rd row 11 times. At the same time, when work measures 13 inches from start, bind off 10 sts. for underarm, then decrease 1 st. at underarm side every other row 18 times. When work measures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off remaining 10 sts.

Yoke for Right Front—Cast on 61 sts. Increase 1 st. at side edge every row 21 times, then every 3rd row 22 times. At the same time when work measures 2½ inches from start, working from front edge, work over 5 sts., bind off 10 sts., work across row. Next row cast on 10 sts. over the bound off sts. When work measures 3½ inches from start, increase 1 st. at front edge. Increase 1 st. on this edge every ¾ inch 4 more times. When work measures 7½ inches from start, * decrease 1 st. at front edge every row 2 times, work 1 row even, repeat from * until 41 sts. have been de­creased in this manner.

At the same time, when work measures 10½ inches from start, working from side edge, work over 20 sts., turn, bind off 5 sts., work across row. Working on these 15 sts., bind off 5 sts. from in­side edge every other row 3 times. Attach yarn to other sts. and bind off 6 sts. from inside edge every other row until all sts. are worked off.

Left Front—Work to correspond to Right Front omitting buttonholes. Work a yoke for left front to correspond to yoke of right front omitting buttonhole.

Sleeves—Cast on 67 sts. Work 2 inches even, then increase 1 st. each side. Increase 1 st. each side every ½ inch 22 more times, then every inch 4 times. When work measures 18 inches from start, bind off 10 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st. each side every other row 30 times, then every row 10 times. Bind off remaining sts.

Sew shoulder seams of back and fronts. Sew sleeves in place, sew underarm and sleeve seams. Sew shoulder seams of yokes. Fold under hems on yokes, having a 2 inch hem on sides, and slop­ing off to a 1 inch hem at bottom. Sew in place, having about 1½ inches of hem free on shoulders and about ½ inch free at bottom. Work 1 row S. C. around all edges.

SKIRT (Make 3 pieces): Cast on 157 sts. Work even for 8 inches, then decrease 1 st. each side. Decrease 1 st. each side every inch 15 more times, then every ½ inch 14 times. Work 1 inch even, bind off. Sew seams, work beading at top for elastic. Work 2 rows S. C. around bottom edge.
