Milwards Tapestry Needle for sewing seams.

6-inch 'Lightning' Zipper (Gold Pack).

5 Buttons. 2 Press Studs.

TENSION—11 stitches to 2 inches.

ABBREVIATIONS—"Inc." = Pick up loop which lies before next st., place on left-hand needle and knit t.b.l.

The unusual texture of this yarn makes it essential to pull the yarn through firmly when working each stitch.

PONCHO (4 pieces)

Using No. 11 Needles and C.1, cast on 22 stitches.

1st row (wrong side)—Knit.

Rep. 1st row 24 times.

Using No. 9 Needles and M., proceed as follows—

1st row—Inc. in first St., knit to last St., inc. in last st.

2nd row—Purl.

Rep. 1st and 2nd rows 3 times.

** Using C.1, knit 4 rows. Break off C.1.

Using M., rep. 1st and 2nd rows 4 times.

Using C.2, knit 4 rows. Break off C.2.

Using M., rep. 1st and 2nd rows 4 times.

Using C.3, knit 4 rows. Break off C.3.

Using M., rep. 1st and 2nd rows 4 times. **

Using C.1, knit 25 rows, inc. at each end of 3rd and every following 4th row. (138 sts.) Cast off.

Using No. 11 Needles and C.1, cast on 12 stitches.

1st row (wrong side)—Knit.

Rep. 1st row 79 times.

81st row—K.2 tog., K.8, K.2 tog.

82nd row—K.2 tog., K.6, K.2 tog.

83rd row—K.2 tog., K.4, K.2 tog.

84th row—K.2 tog., K.2, K.2 tog.

85th row—(K.2 tog.) twice, turn, K.2 tog. Fasten off.

MAKE UP

With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly. Using back-stitch, sew up 3 seams. Sew 4th seam to within 5 inches of neckline. Sew in zip. Place front tab in position over zip, slip-stitch along right side and around lower edge. Sew on buttons and sew press studs in position. Press seams.

CAP

Using No. 11 Needles and C.1, cast on 112 stitches

1st row (wrong side)—Knit.

Rep. 1st row 13 times.

15th row—K.7, * "Inc.", K.14, rep. from * to last 7 sts., "Inc.", K.7. (120 sts.)

Using No. 9 Needles and M., proceed as follows—

1st row—Knit. 2nd row—Purl.

Rep. 1st and 2nd rows 3 times.

Using C.1, knit 4 rows.

Using M., rep. 1st and 2nd rows 4 times.

Using C.2, knit 4 rows.

Shape top as follows—

Using M.

1st row—* K.13, K.2 tog., rep. from * to end. (112 sts.)

2nd row—Purl.

3rd row—* K.12, K.2 tog., rep. from * to end. (104 sts.)

4th row—Purl.

5th row—* K.11. K.2 tog., rep. from * to end. (96 sts.)

MAKE UP
