Knitted Skirt Pattern #106

Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen or Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton, 7 balls of color desired. Circular knitting needle No. 2. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 4.

Gauge: 10 rows equal 1 inch, 15 sts equal 2 inches.

   Beginning at bottom of skirt, cast on 345 sts using circular needle. K for 4 inches. 1st decreasing rnd: * K 21, k 2 together, and repeat from * around (330 sts on needle). K for 3 inches. 2nd decreasing rnd: * K 20, k 2 together, and repeat from * around (315 sts on needle). K for 3 inches. Make 4 more decreasing rnds, with 3 inches plain knitting between, taking care to have 1 st less each rnd between decreases. When 6th decreasing rnd is made, there should be 255 sts on needle. K for 2 inches (piece should now measure about 21 inches). Next rnd: Sl 1 st, k 1, pass sl st over k st (a decrease), k 77 sts, k 2 together; then make a ribbing of p 2, k 3 for 9 times; p 2, sl 1 st, k 1, pass sl st over k st (a decrease), k 76 sts, k 2 together; ribbing of p 2, k 3 for 9 times; p 2 (251 sts). Work 3 rnds even, with ribbing at sides. Repeat these 4 rnds 11 times (207 sts). Knit 3 rnds even, then work entirely in ribbing (p 2, k 3), decreasing the 2 extras sts. Work until skirt measures 29 inches. Bind off. With the crochet hook make beading around top for the elastic by 1 tr, ch 2, skip 2 sts of skirt, and 1 tr in 3rd st, and repeat all around.

   Finish bottom of skirt by attaching thread, ch 3, d c in next st, and d c in each st around bottom, keeping work flat. * Join with sl st, ch 3, d c in each d c around, and repeat from * 12 more times. Fasten off.
