These 24 rows constitute the pattern. Work in pattern until piece measures 7¼ inches.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Continuing in pattern, dec. 1 st at end of each row until 71 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 4 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulders, bind off 6 sts at beginning of each row until 35 sts remain. Work in ribbing for 4 rows. Bind off.

Front. Work exactly as for Back, until piece measures 4 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping (71 sts). With right side of work toward you, work in pattern across 1st 32 sts, bind off 7 sts (thus starting neck shaping), and continue in pattern across remaining 32 sts. Work over these last 32 sts only, decreasing 1 st at neck edge each row until 24 sts remain. Work straight for 3 rows. To shape shoulder, starting at armhole edge, bind off 6 sts every other row until all sts are worked off. Break off. Attach yarn at opposite side of neck edge and work to correspond. With right side of work toward you, pick up 42 sts all around neck edge and work in ribbing for 4 rows. Bind off.

Sleeves. Starting at bottom, cast on 50 sts and work in ribbing for 2¼ inches. Then work in stockinette st for 4 rows, increasing 7 sts at equal distances apart on the 1st row only (57 sts). Hereafter work in pattern, increasing 1 st at both ends of 1 row every inch until there are 65 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 7½ inches in all. To shape top of sleeve, bind off 2 sts at beginning of each row until 17 sts remain. Bind off.

Sew up shoulder seams, starting at armhole edge and working along shoulder until seam measures 1½ inches. Sew up underarm seams. Sew up sleeve seams and sew sleeves in. Work a row of s c along openings at neck edge, making a ch-5 buttonloop on each side of Front. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonloops.

PANTS

Right Leg. Starting at top of waistband, cast on 90 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for ½ inch. On next row, k 3, * O, k 2 tog., p 1, k 1. Repeat from * across. Then continue in ribbing until piece measures 1¼ inches. Next row: K 10, turn. Following row: P across. Repeat these last 2 rows alternately, always working an additional 11 sts on each k row, until there are 65 sts on right-hand needle; turn and p across. Hereafter work across entire row, keeping in stockinette st until piece measures 4¼ inches along short side. Then inc. 1 st at short side on next row and every ¾ inch thereafter; at the same time, inc. 1 st at long side on the 3rd row and every ½ inch thereafter until there are 110 sts on needle. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 96 sts remain. Work in ribbing for ¾ inch. Bind off.
