4 balls Saxony 3 fold (1 oz. ball)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 2 and No. 3
6 small buttons

GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:
1st row: * K3, P1, repeat from * across row, end K3.
2nd row: * P3, K1, repeat from * across row, end P3.
3rd row: K across row.
4th row: P across row.
5th row: K across row.
6th row: P across row.
7th row: K across row.
8th row: P across row.
9th row: K1, * P1, K3, repeat from * across, end K1 .
10th row: P1, * K1, P3, repeat from * across, end P1.
11th to 16th rows incl.: Like 3rd to 8th rows incl.
Repeat these 16 rows for pattern.

BACK: Cast on 80 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in rib­bing K1, P1 for 2 inch., increasing 7 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 3 needles and pattern. With 87 sts. work even until the entire piece measures 8 inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. Work even for 5 inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 rows 11 sts., rem. 29 sts. bind off for neck.

FRONT: Cast on 48 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in rib­bing K1, P1 for 2 inch., incr. 1 st. at the end of last row, keeping the 6 front sts. all the way up in garter st. for border. Change to No. 3 needles and pattern. With 49 sts. work even until entire piece measures like back up to underarm. Bind off for armhole at seam edge 6 sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows at seam edge 2 sts. Work even for 3½ inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 13 sts. at center edge and then always 2 sts. at neck edge until 22 sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off 2 times 11 sts. at armhole edge. Work other front to correspond and make 6 buttonholes in front border, starting first buttonhole after ½ inch. (To make a button­hole K2, bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row, cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts.)

SLEEVE: Sew up shoulder seams and pick up 67 sts. with No. 3 needles around the armhole. Work in pattern for 2½ inch. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 53 sts. are left. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 7¾ inch. Decr, in next row at even intervals to 46 sts. and K1, P1 with No. 2 needles for 2 inch. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P.

FINISHING: Sew up side and sleeve seams. Right side facing you, pick up with No. 2 needles 78 sts. around the neck and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 6 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Sew buttons in place and steam lightly.
