MATERIAL:
7 balls Sportyarn (2 oz. ball)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 2 and No. 4
2 stitch holders.
7 buttons

GAUGE: 6½ sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN: Stock. st. throughout entire sweater.

BACK: Cast on 122 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in rib­bing K1, P1 for 3 inch., increasing 8 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. With 130 sts. work even until the entire piece measures 14 inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 8 sts., at the beg. of the next 4 rows 2 sts., decr. 1 st. at each end of the K row until 102 sts. are left over. Work even for 8½ inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 rows 10 sts., rem. 42 sts. bind off for neck.

POCKET LINING: Cast on 30 sts. and work in stock. st. for 4¾ inch. Slip sts. to a holder. Make 2 pieces.

FRONT: Cast on 70 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in rib­bing K1, P1 for 3 inch., keeping the 7 center front sts. in garter st. for buttonhole border throughout the entire front. Incr. 4 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. Work even until the entire piece measures 6 inch., ending at front edge. Work over first 18 sts., K next 30 sts., slip them to a holder for top of pocket and work to end of row. On next row, work to holder, then slip sts. of pocket lining to left hand needle and work across them. Finish row. With 74 sts. work even until the entire piece measures the same as back up to underarm. Bind off for armhole at seam edge 12 sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows at seam edge 2 sts. Decr. 1 st. at seam edge twice. Decr, for neck 1 st. at center edge after border every other row until 30 sts. and the 7 border sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 10 sts. 3 times. Work rem. 7 border sts. in garter st. for 2¾ inch. Bind off. Work other front to correspond and make 7 buttonholes in front border, starting first one after ½ inch. (To make a buttonhole K3, bind off 3 sts., work to end of row. On next row, cast on 3 sts. over the 3 bound off sts.)

SLEEVE: Cast on 56 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in rib­bing K1, P1 for 2½ inch., increasing 8 sts. at even inter­vals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of the K row every 6th row until 94 sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 19 inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 76 sts. are left. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 64 sts. are on needle. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 40 sts. are left over. Bind off. Work the 2nd sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING: Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams and sew in sleeves. Sew neckband together and sew to back of neck. Pocket: Slip the sts. from holder back to needle and finish pocket with 6 rows garter st. Bind off. Work other pocket to correspond. Sew pocket lining and garter st. border to sweater. Sew on buttons and steam lightly.
