MATERIAL:
4 (4-5) balls Baby Yarn yellow (1 oz. ball)
1 (1-1) ball Baby Yarn mint (1 oz. ball)
1 (1-1) ball Baby Yarn white (1 oz. ball)
or
2 (2-3) skeins Orion Acrylic 2 ply yellow (2 oz. skein)
1 (1-1) skein Orion Acrylic 2 ply mint (2 oz. skein)
1 (1-1) skein Orion Acrylic 2 ply white (2 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 2 and No. 3
2 stitch holders
1 crochet hook No. 2 or C
5 (5-6) buttons
1 yard ribbon for hat

GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:
1st to 8th row incl. yellow: stock. st.
9th row mint: * K2, slip 2 (yarn in back) repeat from * across row end K2.
10th row mint: * K2, slip 2 (yarn in front) repeat from * across row end K2.
11th row white: * slip 2 (yarn in back), K2 repeat from * across row end slip 2.
12th row white: * slip 2 (yarn in front), K2 repeat from * across row end slip 2.
13th row mint: work as 9th row.
14th row mint: work as 10th row.
15th row yellow: work as 11th row.
16th row yellow: * slip 2 (yarn in front), P2 repeat from * across row end slip 2.
Repeat these 16 rows for pattern.

BACK:
With yellow and No. 2 needles cast on 76 (80-84) sts. and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch. (all sizes). Incr. 2 sts. (all sizes) at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 3 needles and pattern. With 78 (82-86) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 7 (7½-8) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Shape raglan armhole: bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 sts. (all sizes). 1st row: K2, slip 1, K1, p.s.s.o., work to last 4 sts., K2 tog., K2. 2nd row: Work back. Repeat these 2 rows 23 (25-27) times. Rem. 24 sts. (all sizes) bind off.

LEFT FRONT:
NOTE:    For boys work buttonholes in left front border.
For girls work buttonholes in right front border.
With yellow and No. 2 needles cast on 45 (47-40) sts. and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch., keeping the 7 cen­ter front sts. in seed st. for buttonhole border throughout the entire front. Incr. 2 sts. (all sizes) at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 3 needles and pattern and slip the 7 border sts. to a holder to be worked later. With 40 (42-44) sts. work even until the entire piece measures like back to underarm. Shape raglan armhole: bind off at armhole edge at the beg. of the next row 4 sts. (all sizes) and decr. for raglan as on back 23 (25-27) times and at the same time when 16 (18-20) decr. are com­pleted (there are 20 (20-20) sts. left) bind off for neck 5 (5-5) sts. at center edge and then 2 sts. at neck edge every other row 3 times (all sizes). Rem. 2 sts. bind off. Slip sts. from holder back to needle, attach yellow and work in seed st. until border measures as long as front to neckline. Slip sts. to a holder.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work Right Front to correspond reversing all shap­ings and work in 5 (5-6) buttonholes evenly spaced apart, placing first buttonhole ½ inch from beg. and last one 4 rows below neckline. (To make a buttonhole: Work 3 sts., bind off next 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts. of previous row.)

SLEEVE:
With yellow and No. 2 needles cast on 44 (44-48) sts. and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch. (all sizes). Incr. 1 st. at each end of last row of ribbing. Change to No. 3 needles and pattern. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and and of every 6th row until 56 (60-64) sts. are on needle, working incr. sts. in pattern. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 8 (8½-9) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Shape raglan cap: bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 sts. Decr. for raglan as on back 23 (25-27) times. Bind off rem. 2 sts. (all sizes). Work the other sleeve to cor­respond.

FINISHING:
Sew up side and sleeve seams. Sew sleeves to front and back. Neckband: Right side facing you pick up with yellow and No. 2 needles 70 (74-78) sts. around the neck (incl. sts. from holders) and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 7 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Sew borders to fronts. Sew buttons in place and block to size.

HAT:
With yellow and No. 3 needles cast on 78 (82-86) sts. and work 2 patterns, starting and ending with 4 rows stock. st. yellow. Reverse pattern (working right side of hat on wrong side of cuff) and work even until piece meas­ures 4 (4½-5) inch. above cuff. Work in stock. st. and yellow only and incr. 1 st. before and after the 2 center sts. every K row 10 (10-11) times. Weave sts. tog.

FINISHING:
With yellow and No. 2 needles pick up 72 (76-80) sts. around the bottom of hat and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 5 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Work 1 row s.c. around 3 sides of cuff and 1 row s.c. through double thickness around face. Sew ribbon to hat as shown in picture and block to size.
