These directions are for Size 10 to 12. Changes for Sizes 14 to 16 and 18 to 20 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Columbia-Minerva Calibar (2 oz skein) - 27(29-30) skeins

OR

Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Calibrette (2 oz skein) - 24(26-27) skeins

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 8 and 13 - 14 inch
Gauge: 5 sts to 2 inches; 3 rows to 1 inch (pat st Size 13 needles with double strand)
1 "Boye" Aluminum Crochet Hook "H" (Size 6) (for Crocheted Collar)

PATTERN STITCH: (even no. of sts) Work with double strand of yarn. Row 1: (Wrong side of work) P. Row 2: *K 2, yo loosely, K 2, pass yo the 2 K sts, repeat from * across row. Row 3: P. Row 4: *Yo loosely, K 2, pass yo the 2 K sts, K 2, repeat from * across row. Repeat these 4 rows for pat.

BACK: With single strand of yarn and Size 13 needles cast on 58(64-68) sts. Work in St St for 5 rows, starting with a P row. P 1 row on right side of work for turn of hem, dec'ing 6 sts evenly across row - 52(58-62) sts on needle. Join another ball of yarn and work in pat with double strand of yarn. When work measures 19 inches, or desired length from turn of hem to underarm, To Shape Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 2(3-3) times - 42(46-50) sts on needle. When armholes measure 9”(9 ½”-10”), measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm, To Shape Shoulders: Bind off 7(7-8) sts at beg of next 4(2-4) rows, then on Size 14 to 16 only bind off 8 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 14(16-18) sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT: With single strand of yarn and Size 13 needles cast on 27(29-31) sts. Work in St St for 5 rows, starting with a P row. P 1 row on right side of work for turn of hem, casting on 6 sts at end of row - 33(35-37) sts on needle. Join another ball of yarn and work pat with double strand of yarn, ending Rows 2 and 4 with K 1. When work measures 4 inches from turn of hem, To Shape Pocket Opening: (Right side of work) Work across 14(16-18) sts, join 2nd set of strands of yarn and work rem 19 sts. Working both sides at the same time, work even until pocket opening measures 6 inches. Work across row, then break 2nd set of double strand and fasten. Continue in pat until work measures same as Back to underarm, To Shape Armhole: Bind off 3 sts at side edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 3(4-5) times - 27(28-29) sts on needle. When front edge measures 24 ½”(25”-25 ½”) from cast-on sts, To Shape Neck: Bind off 5(6-6) sts at front edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every row 5(3-3) times, then every other row 3(4-4) times. When armhole measures same as at Back, To Shape Shoulder: Bind off 7(7-8) sts at armhole edge every other row 2(1-2) times, then on Size 14 to 16 only bind off 8 sts once. Place markers for 5 buttons at front edge, having first marker 6 inches from start and 5th marker 1 inch below neck edge.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with Left Front, working pocket opening and decs at opposite sides and working buttonholes to correspond with markers as follows: (Right side of work) Work 3 sts, bind off 3 sts, work to end of row. On next row cast on 3 sts over the bound-off sts.

LEFT FRONT FACING: With single strand of yarn and Size 13 needles cast on 11 sts. Work in St St. When work measures 22 ½”(23”-23 ½”), inc 1 st at end of K row every other row 5 times AND AT THE SAME TIME when work measures same as front edge from turn of hem to neck edge, bind off 5(6-6) sts at beg of K row, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 6 times. When work measures same as Front to shoulder, bind off rem sts. Place markers for 5 buttons to correspond with markers on Front.

RIGHT FRONT FACING: Work to correspond with Left Front Facing, having incs and decs at opposite sides and working buttonholes to correspond with markers as follows: (Right side of work) K 3, bind off 4 sts, K 4. On next row cast on 4 sts over the bound-off sts.

SLEEVES: With single strand of yarn and Size 13 needles cast on 30(32-34) sts. Work in St St for 5 rows, starting with a P row. P 1 row on right side of work for turn of hem, dec'ing 4 sts evenly across row - 26(28-30) sts on needle. Join another ball of yarn and work with double strand of yarn, inc'ing 1 st each side every 8th row 5 times, being careful to keep pat even - 36(38-40) sts on needle. When work measures 16 ½”(17”-17 ½”), or desired length from turn of hem to underarm, To Shape Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every row 2(4-6) times, then every other row 7(6-5) times. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 6 sts.

CROCHETED COLLAR: LOOP ST PATTERN: (Gauge: 3 sc to 1 inch) Ch desired length. Row 1: *With yarn over left index finger, insert hook into st and draw yarn from under finger through st (forming ¾ inch loop). Remove finger and hold loop to left side, yo hook and through the 2 loops on needle. Repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn. Row 2: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn. Repeat these 2 rows for pat.

COLLAR: With single strand of yarn ch 77(81-85). Row 1: Work in loop st pat - 76(80-84) loops on row. Row 2: Dec 1 st at beg of row (to dec - draw up a loop in each of 2 sts and work off as 1 st), 1 sc in each of next 10(10-9) sts, *dec 1 st as before, 1 sc in each of next 8(9-10) sts, repeat from * 4 times more, dec 1 st, 10(9-9) sc, dec 1 st. Row 3: Work 68(72-76) loops. Row 4: Dec 1 st, 12 sc, *dec 1 st, 11(12-13) sc, repeat from * 3 times more, ending dec 1 st. Row 5: Work 62(66-70) loops. Row 6: Dec 1 st, 8 (8-7) sc, *dec 1 st, 6(7-8) sc, repeat from * 4 times more, dec 1 st, 8(7-7) sc, dec 1 st. Row 7: Work 54(58-62) loops. Row 8: Dec 1 st, 9(10-10) sc, *dec 1 st, 8(9-10) sc, repeat from * 2 times more, dec 1 st, 9(9-10) sc, dec 1 st. Row 9: Work 48(52-56) loops. Row 10: Dec 1 st, 14(14-16) sc, *dec 1 st, 13(15-16) sc, repeat from * once more, dec 1 st. Row 11: Work 44(48-52) loops. Row 12: Dec 1 st, 12(14-14) sc, *dec 1 st, 12(13-15) sc, repeat from * once more, dec 1 st. Row 13: Work 40(44-48) loops. Row 14: Dec 1 st, 10(12-14) sc, *dec 1 st, 11(12-13) sc, repeat from * once more, dec 1 st. Row 15: Work 36(40-44) loops. Row 16: Sl st in first 3 sts, work 1 sc in each st across to within last 3 sts, ch 1, turn. Row 17: Sl st in first 5 sts, 1 sc in each st across to within last 5 sts. Break yarn and fasten.

BORDER OF COLLAR: With single strand of yarn and Size 8 needles cast on 142(146-150) sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 10 rows. Bind off in ribbing. Fold ribbing in half and sew both edges to outside edge of Collar, starting and ending at last loop row.

POCKET FACING: (Make 2) With single strand of yarn and Size 13 needles cast on 16 sts. Work in St St for 7 ½ inches. Bind off.

Sew shoulder seams. Sew Sleeves in place. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. If desired, face Collar with material of matching Color. Sew Collar to neck edge, starting and ending 1 inch in from front edges. Sew front facings to front edges, sewing around buttonholes. Turn up hems at lower edge and sleeve edges and sew in place. Sew pocket facings in place. With right side facing and single strand of yarn, work 1 row of hdc along front edge of pocket opening, turn and sew in place.

The collar pattern was missing from this pattern when originally published online and I've corrected that by adding it today 7/30/13.
