Laddie Outfit Pattern

SIZES 3 (4).

NOTE—Underline or circle the num­bers applying to the size desired. The first number in each group is for size 3, the second for size 4.

MATERIALS—SPINNERIN SOFTA 6 balls main color and 5 balls contrasting color for each outfit; 1 pair Knitting Needles No. 2; 1 pair Knitting Needles No. 4; 2 buttons for each shoulder opening.

PATTERNPants and Skirt—Stock­inette St. (knit 1 row, purl 1 row). Pullovers—Stockinette St. and Garter St. (knit every row).

GAUGE—6½ sts. = 1 inch. 9 rows = 1 inch. Accurate gauge is essential.

Laddie, Boy's Suit, No. 2094-B

MEASUREMENTS—Chest 22 (23) inches, blouse to underarm 8 (8½) inches, sleeve seam 9 (10½) inches. Pants—Waist to crotch 9 (10) inches.

PULLOVERBACK—Using No. 2 needles, and main color, cast on 72 (76) sts., work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 10 (12) rows. Change to No. 4 needles and work as follows: * Using contrasting color, knit 1 row, purl 1 row alternately for 6 rows, then knit 2 rows with main color and repeat from * for pattern. Work even in pattern until back measures 8 (8½) inches from start. At the beg. of each of the next 2 rows, bind off 2 sts. Dec. 1 st. each end of needle every other row twice, (64 (68) sts.). Work even in pat­tern until armhole measures 4 (4½) inches straight up from underarm. At the beg. of each of the next 6 (4) rows, bind off 6 (7) sts. For Size 4 only: Then at the beg. of each of the next 2 rows, bind off 6 sts. Place remaining 28 sts. on holder to be worked later.

FRONT—Work in same manner as back until armhole measures 3½ inches straight up from underarm. Work first 20 (22) sts. in pattern and place on holder for left shoulder. Work center 24 sts. and place on holder for front of neck. On 20 (22) sts. of right shoulder, work back and forth in pattern, dec. 1 st. at neck edge every other row twice. Work even until armhole measures 4 (4½) inches straight up from underarm. At beg. of arm edge, bind off 6 (7) sts. every other row 3 (2) times. For Size 4 only: Then bind off 6 sts. once. Work other shoulder to correspond, reversing shaping.

SLEEVES—Using No. 2 needles, and main color, cast on 42 (46) sts. Work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 2½ (3) inches. Change to No. 4 needles and work in pat­tern as on body of Pullover, inc. 1 st. each end of needle every 8th row 5 times; (52 (56) sts.). Work even until sleeve measures 9 (10½) inches from start or desired length to underarm. At the beg. of each of the next 10 (14) rows, bind off 4 (3) sts. Bind off remaining 12 (14) sts.

STRAPS—Make 2. Using No. 2 nee­dles and main color, cast on 10 sts. Work firmly in garter st. for 19 (19½) inches or long enough to fit over child's shoulders. Bind off.

FINISHING—Sew underarm and sleeve seams of blouse. Sew right shoulder seam. Using No. 2 needles and main color pick up 80 (82) sts. around neck. Work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 8 rows. Bind off loosely, knitting the K sts. and purling the P sts. Sew left shoulder seam for 1 inch from arm edge. Sew sleeves in armholes matching underarm seams. With contrast­ing color, work 2 rows of S. C. around left shoulder opening, on second row work 3 button loops as follows: *Ch 2, skip 2, repeat from * 2 more times. Sew buttons in place opposite button loops.

PANTS—Using No. 2 needles and main color, cast on 82 (86) sts. Work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 8 (10) rows. Change to No. 4 needles and work even in stockinette st. for 2½ inches. Dec. 1 st. each end of needle. Repeat this dec. every inch 4 (5) times more, (72 (74) sts.). Work even until pants measure 8 (9) inches from start. Change to No. 2 needles and work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 1 inch. Purl 1 row on right side of work for turnover. Then work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 1 inch more. Bind off. Work other leg in same manner.

CROTCH PIECE—Using No. 4 nee­dles and main color, cast on 16 (18) sts. Work in stockinette st. for 2½ inches or until piece forms a square. Bind off.

FINISHING—Sew seams of pants tog. from first dec. to top, leaving 1 inch of front ribbing open for cord. Turn back waist ribbing and hem to inside of pants. Sew in crotch piece diagonally from first dec. to top of leg ribbing. Sew leg rib­bings tog. Work 1 row of S. C. around straps and sew in place. Using double strand of yarn, make a ch long enough for waist tie. Sew straps in place on top of waist ribbing.

CAP—Using No. 4 needles and main color, cast on 34 sts. Work in stockinette st. for 8 rows. Dec. 1 st. each end of needle. Repeat this dec. every 6th row 3 times more (26 sts.). Work 4 rows even. Then *K2 tog., K4, repeat from * 3 times more, K2 tog. Purl 1 row. Dec. 1 st. each end of needle and 3 sts. evenly spaced across row, every other row until 6 sts. remain. Bind off. Make another section in main color and 2 sections in contrast­ing color following above instructions. Sew sections tog., alternating colors.

TURNBACK—Cast on 120 sts. Work in stockinette st. for 1¼ inches. Bind off loosely. Sew back seams. Sew turnback to bottom of cap, after sections have been sewn tog. Work 2 rows of S. C. around turned up edge of turnback. Cast on 10 sts. Work 2 inches of stockinette st. Bind off. Run a thread all around outside edge of this piece, slip button mold inside, pull edges tog. and sew to top of cap over shirring.
