Work as given for No. 5709A until ribbing has been completed, then work in pattern as follows:
Row 1Knit 1 CC34 MC1 CC34 MC1 CC.
Row 2Purl 2 CC32 MC3 CC32 MC2 CC.
Row 3Knit 3 CC30 MC5 CC30 MC3 CC.
Row 4Purl 4 CC28 MC7 CC28 MC4 CC.
Continue in the above manner, adding 1 more st in color to the CC half diamonds on each end; 2 more sts to the CC center diamond; decreasing 1 st in color on each side of the MC half diamonds, every row, until the 2 MC half diamonds have been completed and sts are on the Needles as follows:
Row 17Knit 17 CC2 MC33 CC2 MC17 CC.
Row 18Purl back in CC only.
Row 19Repeat row 17.
Row 20Repeat row 16.
Continue in the above manner, adding 1 more st in color to the MC diamonds; decreasing 1 st in color to the CC half diamonds on each end and 2 sts in color to the center CC diamond, every row, until center CC diamond has been completed and sts are on the Needle as follows:

Row 36Purl 34 MC3 CC34 MC.
HEEL: With MC knit 17. Place remaining 54 sts on st-holder. Work back and forth in stockinette st on the 17 heel sts for 26 rows ending with a purl row. Turn this half of heel as follows:
Row 1K 2, K 2 tog., K 1; turn; slip 1, P 3; turn.
Row 3K 3, K 2 tog., K 1; turn; slip 1, P 4; turn.
Row 5K 4, K 2 tog., K 1; turn; slip 1, P 5; turn.
Continue working in the above manner until all sts are worked; there will be 10 sts on the Needle, ending with K 8, K 2 tog., K 1. Pick up and knit 14 sts on side of heel. Place the sts from st-holder to left hand and work across the 37 instep sts in pattern as follows: Knit 16 MC5 CC16 MC. Place the 61 sts just worked, on st-holder. Work back and forth in stockinette st on the remaining 17 heel sts for 27 rows, ending with a knit row. Turn this half of heel as follows:
Row 1P 2, P 2 tog., P 1; turn; slip 1, K 3; turn.
Row 3P 3, P 2 tog., P 1; turn; slip 1, K 4; turn.
Row 5P 4, P 2 tog., P 1; turn; slip 1, K 5; turn.
Continue working in the above manner until all sts are worked; there will be 10 sts on the Needle, ending with P 8, P 2 tog., P 1. Pick up and purl 14 sts on side of heel. Place the sts from st-holder to left hand Needle and purl across row as follows:
Purl 15 MC7 CCpurl remaining sts in MC (85 sts). Continuing to add 1 st in color to the center CC diamond on every row, working all remaining sts in MC; shape instep as follows:
INSTEP SHAPING:
Row 1K 22, K 2 tog., pattern over 37, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 22.
Row 2 and all even rows purl.
Row 3K 21, K 2 tog., pattern over 37, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 21.
Row 5K 20, K 2 tog., pattern over 37, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 20.
Continue decreasing as given above, adding 1 st in color on each side of the CC diamond every row, until sts are on the Needle across the 37 instep sts as follows: 3 MC31 CC3 MC. On the next row, start decreasing 1 st in color on each side of the center CC diamond on every row, continuing the instep decreases, until 71 sts remain. Work even, continuing pattern across instep, until the center diamond has been completed and sts are on the Needle as follows: Knit 35 MC1 CC35 MC. Break off CC yarn. Work even in stockinette st, in main color only, until foot measures 2 in. less than desired length measuring from back of heel. Complete as given for No. 5709A from toe decreases.
