1 Pr. Standard No. 2 Needles

Double Pointed Needle

SCALE: 8 sts to 1 in.

JACK FROST SPORT YARN—2 2-oz. Balls

Cast on 64 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2 in., then work in pattern as follows:

Row 1—K 1, * P 2, K 4, P 2, K 1; repeat from * across row.

Row 2—K 3, * P 4, K 5; repeat from * across row ending P 4, K 3.

Repeat above 2 rows working a cable twist over each rib of K 4, on the 5th and every 6th row thereafter as follows: slip the first 2 sts onto double pointed Needle, hold in back of work, K the next 2 sts, then bring the slipped sts forward and K them from double pointed Needle. Work even in pattern until piece measures 4 in. from lower edge, ending on wrong side.

HEEL: Knit 16. Place the remaining 48 sts on st-holder. Work back and forth on the 16 heel sts for 26 rows ending with a purl row. Turn this half of heel as follows:

Row 1—K 1, K 2 tog., K 1; turn; slip 1, P 2; turn.

Row 3—K 2, K 2 tog., K 1; turn; slip 1, P 3; turn.

Row 5—K 3, K 2 tog., K 1; turn; slip 1, P 4; turn.

Continue working as given above, until all sts are worked; there will be 9 sts on the Needle, ending with K 7, K 2 tog., K 1.

Pick up and knit 14 sts on side of heel. Place the sts from st-holder to left hand Needle and work in pattern across the 32 instep sts. Place the 55 sts just worked, on st-holder. Work back and forth in stockinette st on the remaining 16 heel sts for 27 rows ending with a knit row. Turn this half of heel as follows:

Row 1—P 1, P 2 tog., P 1; turn; slip 1, K 2; turn.

Row 3—P 2, P 2 tog., P 1; turn; slip 1, K 3; turn.

Row 5—P 3, P 2 tog., P 1; turn; slip 1, K 4; turn.

Continue working as given above until all sts are worked; there will be 9 sts on the Needle, ending with P 7, P 2 tog., P 1.

Pick up and purl 14 sts on side of heel. Place the sts from st-holder to left hand Needle and work across row keeping the 32 instep sts in pattern to toe (78 sts).

INSTEP SHAPING:

Row 1—K 21, K 2 tog., pattern over 32, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 21.

Row 2—and all even rows purl, keeping the 32 instep sts in pattern to toe.

Row 3—K 20, K 2 tog., pattern over 32, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 20.

Row 5—K 19, K 2 tog., pattern over 32, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 19.

Continue decreasing as given above until 64 sts remain.

Work even until foot measures 2 in. less than a desired length, measuring from back of heel, ending with a purl row. Decrease for toe as follows:

Row 1—K 13, K 2 tog., K 2, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 26, K 2 tog., K 2, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 13.

Row 2—and all even rows purl.

Row 3—K 12, K 2 tog., K 2, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 24, K 2 tog., K 2, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 12.

Row 5—K 11, K 2 tog., K 2, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 22, K 2 tog., K 2, slip 1, K 1, PSSO, K 11.

Continue decreasing as given above until 20 sts remain. Weave tip of anklet tog. Sew back and sole seam. Work other anklet to correspond.
