Basket Weave Set Pattern

MATERIALS:

Carriage Robe—3 4-oz. Skeins Knitting Worsted
Pointed Bonnet—½ 4-oz. Skein Knitting Worsted
Sacque—4 1-oz. Balls 3-ply Baby Yarn
T-Bonnet—2 1-oz. Balls 3-ply Baby Yarn
Booties—1 1-oz. Ball 3-ply Baby Yarn
Mittens—1 1 -oz. Ball 3-ply Baby Yarn

1 Pr. Size 7 Standard Knitting Needles
1 Pr. Size 4 Standard Knitting Needles
1 Pr. Size 3 Standard Knitting Needles
Size 3 White Crochet Hook

Gauge: Size 7 Needles—5½ sts to 1 in.;  Size 4 Needles—7½ sts to 1 in.

CARRIAGE ROBE: With size 7 needles cast on
135 sts. Work in pattern as follows:
Rows 1, 3, 6 and 8—P 5, * K 5, P 5; repeat from * across row.
Rows 2, 4, 5 and 7—K 5, * P 5, K 5; repeat from * across row.
Repeat above 8 rows until piece measures 32 in. ending with row 8. Bind off.
Edging: With size 3 crochet hook, work 1 row of edging around robe as follows: Ch 3, 2 d c in first st, * skip 3 sts, 1 s c in next st, ch 3, 2 d c into the same st as the s c just made; repeat from * skipping only 1 st at each corner. Fasten off.

SACQUE: With size 4 needles cast on 75 sts. Work even in pattern as given for carriage robe, until piece measures 7 in. ending with row 8. Con­tinuing pattern, bind off 2 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; work 6 more rows of pattern, then work even in ribbing of K 1, P 1, until piece measures 3¼ in. from underarm. Con­tinuing ribbing, work over 23 sts; place on st- holder. Bind off next 25 sts for back of neck. On remaining 23 sts, work 2 rows even; place marker, then work 2 more rows. Increase 1 st at neck edge, every other row 5 times. Cast on 10 sts at neck edge once. Keeping the first 5 sts worked in garter st (see page 15), and remaining sts in ribbing of K 1, P 1, work even until ribbing measures same as back, measuring from marker; then work in pat­tern for 7 rows. Cast on 2 sts at underarm edge once. Keeping the first 5 sts worked in garter st to lower edge and remaining sts in pattern, work even until piece measures 7 in. from underarm. Bind off. Work other side to correspond.
Sleeves: On right side of garment, pick up 50 sts from end to end of armhole. Work even in pat­tern for 6 in. or desired length to cuff, ending on right side. P 1 row decreasing to 39 sts. Change to size 3 needles and work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 1½ in. Bind off. Sew sleeve seams.
Work 1 row of beading across neck edge (see page 15), Work 1 row of edging as given for carriage robe, around entire sacque. Fasten off.

POINTED BONNET: With size 7 needles and Knitting Worsted, cast on 70 sts. Knit 8 rows, then work even in pattern for 28 rows. Continuing pattern, bind off 5 sts at beginning of each of next 14 rows. Fold bonnet across center and sew back seam.
With size 3 needles on right side of bonnet, pick up 70 sts across neck edge. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 6 rows. Bind off. Work 1 row of edging across front edge. Fasten off.

T-BONNET: With size 4 needles and baby yarn, cast on 75 sts. Knit 8 rows, then work even in pattern for 36 rows. Bind off 25 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Work even on remaining 25 sts, for 36 rows, for back insert. Bind off. Sew sides of insert to bound off edges at each end.
Neckband: With size 3 needles on right side of bonnet, pick up 75 sts across neck edge. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 7 rows. Bind off. Work 1 row of edging across front edge. Fasten off.

BOOTIES: With size 3 needles cast on 40 sts. Work in pattern for 24 rows. Work 1 row of eye­lets as follows:
K 2, * Y O, K 2 tog., K 1; repeat from * ending Y O, K 2 tog. Purl 1 row. Bind off 15 sts; work in pattern across next 10 sts, K 15. Bind off 15 sts, then work back and forth in pattern on re­maining 10 sts for 15 rows, for instep. Bind off.
Foot: Pick up 15 sts across first 15 bound off sts, 10 sts across each side of instep, 8 sts across toe edge of instep and 15 sts across last bound off sts (58 sts). Work back and forth in garter st for 10 rows, then decrease across tip of boot as follows:
Row 1—K 24, K 2 tog., K 6, K 2 tog., K 24.
Rows 2 and 4—Knit.
Row 3—K 23, K 2 tog., K 6, K 2 tog., K 23.
Row 5—K 22, K 2 tog., K 6, K 2 tog., K 22.
Row 6—K 21, K 2 tog., K 6, K 2 tog., K 21.
Bind off. Sew back and sole seams. Work 1 row of edging across top of bootie.

MITTENS: With size 3 needles cast on 35 sts. Work in pattern for 12 rows, then work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2 rows.
Work beading at wrist as follows: K 1, * Y O, K 2 tog., K 1; repeat from * across row, ending K 2. Work in ribbing of P 1, K 1, for 2 rows, then work even in pattern for 24 rows. Decrease tip of mittens as follows:
Row 1—* K 3, K 2 tog., P 3, P 2 tog.; repeat from * across row ending K 3, K 2 tog.
Row 2—* P 2, P 2 tog., K 2, K 2 tog.; repeat from * ending P 2, P 2 tog.
Row 3—* K 1, K 2 tog., P 1, P 2 tog.; repeat from * ending K 1, K 2 tog.
Row 4—K 2 tog. 7 times.
Draw remaining sts tog. and sew side seams. Fasten off. Work 1 row of edging across top of cuff.
