Sizes 1—2 and 3 Yrs.

MATERIALS:
1 Pr. Size 9 Standard Knitting Needles
1 Pr. Size 11 Standard Knitting Needles
1 and 2 yr.—4 2-oz. Skeins Extra Heavy Yarn
3 Yr.—5 2-oz. Skeins (app. 65 yds to a skein)

GAUGE: 3½ sts to 7 in.

FRONT: With size 9 needles cast on 40 sts (2 yr. 44 sts—3 yr. 48 sts). Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 8 rows (2 and 3 yr. 10 rows). Change to size 11 needles and continue ribbing until piece measures 6½ in. (2 yr. 7 in.—3 yr. 7½ in.) or desired length to underarm. Bind off 4 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm. Work even until piece measures 4 in. (2 yr. 4½ in.—3 yr. 5 in.) from bound off sts at underarm.
Work over 4 sts (2 yr. 5 sts—3 yr. 6 sts); place on st-holder. Work in ribbing over next 24 sts (2 yr. 26 sts—3 yr. 28 sts); place on 2nd st-holder for front of neck. On remaining sts, work 4 rows even ending at neck edge, place on 3rd st-holder.
Place sts from 1st st-holder to needle and work 4 rows even ending at neck edge. Cast on 24 sts (2 yr. 26 sts—3 yr. 28 sts) loosely for back of neck.

BACK: Place sts from 3rd st-holder to needle and work across them. Work back and forth on the 32 sts (2 yr. 36 sts—3 yr. 40 sts) until piece measures same as front to underarm, measur­ing from center of shoulder.
Cast on 4 sts at beginning of next 2 rows for underarm. Work even until piece measures same as front to within last 8 rows of ribbing (2 and 3 yr. 10 rows). Change to size 9 needles and continue ribbing for 8 rows (2 and 3 yr. 10 rows). Bind off.

SLEEVES: With size 11 needles on right side of garment, pick up 36 sts (2 yr. 38 sts—3 yr. 42 sts) being sure to space them evenly. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, decreasing 1 st at each end on the 10th and every 6th row thereafter to 30 sts (2 yr. 32 sts—3 yr. 36 sts). Work even until piece measures 6½ in. (2 yr. 7 in.—3 yr. 7½ in.) or desired length to cuff. Change to size 9 needles dec. to 26 sts (2 yr. 28 sts—3 yr. 30 sts). Work in ribbing for 6 more rows (2 and 3 yr. 8 rows). Bind off loosely.
Sew sleeve and underarm seams.

COLLAR: With size 9 needles on wrong side of garment, pick up 32 sts (2 yr. 34 sts—3 yr. 36 sts) across front neck edge, from shoulder to shoulder, including sts from st-holder. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 14 rows (2 and 3 yr. 16 rows). Bind off loosely.

On wrong side of garment pick up 32 sts (2 yr. 34 sts—3 yr. 36 sts) across back neck edge from shoulder to shoulder. Work as given for front. Sew side seams
