MATERIALS:
For a dainty little girl, there is a dainty little lace knit dress like this one. Beehive Baby Wool Patonised is the wool to use for this design so that your garment will look exactly like the one pictured. You will need:—4 ozs. Two No. 11 Queen Bee Knitting Needles. Three Stitch Holders. 4 Buttons. 1½ yds. Ribbon.
MEASUREMENTS: To fit 19½-20 inch Chest. Length from top of shoulder 14½ ins. Sleeve seam ins.
Tension: 8½ sts. and 10 rows = 1 inch.

Knit 7 rows Garter st. (plain knitting every row). Proceed:—

3rd row: K3. *K2tog. Wl.fwd. K1. Wl.fwd. Sl.1. K1. p.s.s.o. K2.
Repeat from * to end of row.
5th row: K2. *K2tog. Wl.fwd. K3. Wl.fwd. Sl.1. K1. p.s.s.o. Repeat from * to last st. K1.
7th row: K1. K2tog. *Wl.fwd. K2. K2tog. K1. Wl.fwd. K2tog. Repeat from * to last 7 sts. Wl.fwd. K2. K2tog. K1. Wl.fwd. K2. 9th row: K2. *Wl.fwd. Sl.1. K1. p.s.s.o. K2. K2tog. Wl.fwd. K1. Repeat from * to last st. K1.
11th row: As 9th row.
13th, 15th, 17th and 19th rows: As 1st. 3rd, 5th and 7th rows, but do not work the purl row after the 19th row.
With wrong side of work facing, knit 3 rows Garter st.
With right side of work facing, beginning with knit row, work 11 rows Stocking st. ending with knit row.
With wrong side of work facing, knit 3 rows Garter st.**
Work from ** to ** once more, then from ** to end of 19th row. (3 lace stripes).
Knit 3 rows Garter st. then 10 rows Stocking st. ending with purl row. Work now measures 9½ ins. from beginning when knitted to correct tension, Proceed:—
1st row: K2. *K2tog. K3tog. Repeat from * to last 5 sts. K2tog. K3. (66 sts. on needle). Knit 3 rows Garter st.
5th row: (eyelets for ribbon). *K1. Wl.fwd. K2tog. Repeat from * to end of row. Knit 3 rows Garter st.
9th row: K4. *Inc. 1.st. in next st. K7. Repeat from * to last 6 sts. Inc. 1.st. in next st. K5. (74 sts. on needle).
Beginning with purl row, work 10 rows Stocking st. ending with knit row.
Knit 1 more row.
Next 2 rows: Knit, casting off 4 sts. beginning each row for armholes. (66 sts. on needle).
Work from ** to end of 19th row, knit 3 rows Garter st. then work 10 rows Stocking st. ending with purl row.
To shape neck: K21. K2tog. Turn. Leave remaining sts. on st. holder.
Working on these 22 sts. continue in Stocking st. dec. 1.st. at neck edge every row to 18 sts. on needle.
Continue even in Stocking st. until armhole measures 4 ins. from first shaping.
To shape shoulder: At armhole edge, cast off 9 sts. every alternate row twice.
Leaving center 20 sts. on st. holder, with right side of work facing, join wool to remaining sts. and work other side to correspond.
BACK: Cast on 157 sts. and work exactly as given for Front until the sts. are cast off for armholes. (66 sts. on needle). With right side of work facing, proceed:—
To make back opening: 1st row: (K5. Wl.fwd. Sl.1. K1. p.s.s.o.) 4 times. K8. Turn. Leave remaining 30 sts. on spare needle. Working on these 36 sts. continue:—
2nd and alternate rows: K6. for Garter st. border. Purl to last st. K1.
Beginning with 3rd pattern row and being careful to note that the additional 5 sts. at end of row are always knitted on knit rows, work even in pattern to end of 8th pattern row.
9th row: (1st. buttonhole). Work in pattern to last 5 sts. K1. Wl.fwd. K2tog. K2.
Working 2 more buttonholes in Garter st. border with 9 rows between, continue in pattern to correspond to Front, until 9 rows have been worked above 3rd buttonhole, ending with purl row. Shape neck and shoulder as given for Front.
With right side of work facing, join wool to remaining 30 sts. of Back. Cast on 6 sts. (36 sts. on left hand needle).
1st row: Knit first 5 sts. (K5. Wl.fwd. Sl.1. K1. p.s.s.o.) 4 times.K3.
2nd and alternate rows: K1. Purl to last 6 sts. K6 for Garter st. border.
Beginning with 3rd pattern row and being careful to note that the first 5 sts. at beginning of row are always knitted on knit rows, continue to correspond to other side, omitting buttonholes, until there are the same number of rows in Garter st. borders, ending at back opening.
Next row: K5. (K2tog. K2) twice for neck and leave these 11 sts. on st. holder. K2tog. K21. Continue to correspond to other side.
NECKBAND: Sew shoulder seams. With right side of work facing, slip the sts. of Left Back st. holder onto needle. Join wool. Pick up and knit 18 sts. along side of neck. Working across sts. from st. holder at Front, K3. (K2tog. K2) 3 times K2tog. K3. Pick up and knit 18 sts. along other side of neck. Working across sts. of Right Back st. holder, (K2. K2tog.) twice K1. Wl.fwd. K2tog. K2. Knit 3 rows Garter st. Cast off.
SLEEVES: Cast on 36 sts. Knit 7 rows Garter st.
8th row: K3. Inc. 1.st. in each of next 30 sts. K3. (66 sts. on needle).
Beginning with purl row, work 10 rows Stocking st. ending with knit row.
Knit 1 more row.
Next 2 rows: Knit, casting off 2 sts. beginning each row (62 sts. on needle).

Do not work the purl row after the 19th row.
20th row: Knit.
21st row: K2tog. Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.
22nd row: Knit.
Beginning with knit row, continue in Stocking st. dec. 1.st. each end of needle every knit row to 28 sts. on needle.
Next row: (P2tog.) 14 times. Cast off.
TO MAKE UP: Press carefully. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew the 5 cast-on sts. in position on wrong side of back. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes. Thread ribbon through eyelets at waist.
