MATERIALS: SPINNERIN Moth-Proofed WHIRL-KNIT 13 (13-14-14) 2-oz. Skeins
1 Pr each of Knitting Needles Nos. 8 and 10
1 Bone Crochet Hook No. 6

GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 in; 11 rows = 2 ins
Important: Accurate gauge is absolutely essential.

PATTERN: A multiple of 12 plus 10.
Row 1 (right side): P10, *K2, P10; repeat from * across.
Row 2 and all even rows: Knit the K sts and purl the P sts.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 3 times.
Row 9: P4, *K2, P4; repeat from * across.
Repeat Rows 9 and 10 once.
Row 13: P4, *K2, P10; repeat from * ending with K2, P4.
Repeat Rows 13 and 14, 3 times.
Repeat Rows 9 and 10, twice.
Repeat from Row 1 for pattern.

BACK: With No. 10 needles, cast on 74 (78-82-86) sts and work in stockinette st for 8 rows, end on a purl row (hem). Start Pattern:
For Sizes 12 and 18 Only: Rows 1 and 9: Work from * in pattern, ending with K2. Row 13: P6, work from * in pattern ending with K2, P6.
For Size 14 Only: Rows 1 and 9: P2, work from * in pattern, ending with K2, P2. Row 13: P8, work from * in pattern K2, P8.
For Size 16 Only: Work in pattern as given above.
For All Sizes: Work even in pattern until 7 (7-7½-8) ins above hem or required length to armhole. Shape Armhole: Mark each end of last row for beg of armhole. Dec 1 st each end of every other row 5 times then inc 1 st each end of every 4 rows 8 (8-9-9) times (80 (84-90-94) sts). Work even until 8 (8-8½-8¾) ins above marker. Shape Shoulder: Dec 1 st each end of every other row 5 times, then bind off 4 sts at beg of next 6 rows, 13 (14-16-18) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 20 (22-24-24) sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT: Cast on 34 (36-38-40) sts. Work in stock­inette st for 7 rows, end on a knit row. Cast on 8 sts at front edge (end of knit row), purl back. Starting at un­derarm edge (beg of knit row), start pattern as follows: Row 1: P4 (6-8-10); work from * in pattern, ending with K2 (front edge). Start Row 13 as follows:
Sizes 12 and 18 Only: Work as given in pattern.
Size 14 Only: Start from * in pattern.
Size 16 Only: P2; repeat from * in pattern.

Work even to armhole. Shape Armhole: Keeping front edge even, shape armhole same as for back. Work even until armhole is same as back. Shape Neck and Shoulder: At beg of neck edge, bind off 10 (11-12-12) sts once, 3 sts once, 2 sts once and at armhole edge, dec 1 st every other row 5 times, then bind off 4 sts at beg of same edge 3 times, 13 (14-16-18) sts once.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with Left Front, reversing shaping.

RIGHT FACING: Cast on 8 sts and work even in stock­inette st until required length from hemline to armhole. Keeping front edge (beg of knit row) even, inc 1 st at in­side edge every 3 rows 9 (10-11-11) times. At Same Time, when front edge reaches neck, Shape Neck same as for front. Bind off remaining 2 sts.

LEFT FACING: Work to correspond reversing shaping.

SLEEVE: Cast on 72 (72-76-76) sts and work in stockin­ette st for 5 ins, end on a purl row. Start Pattern St and work even until 16 (16-16½-16½) ins from start or 5 ins more than required length to underarm (5 ins allowed for cuff). Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 5 times. Bind off remaining sts.

COLLAR: Upper Part: With No. 10 needles, cast on 60 (60-62-62) sts and work even in stockinette st for 2½ ins. Bind off. Under Part: With No. 8 needles, cast on 60 (60-62-62) sts and work same as for Upper Part.

ARMBAND: Make 2: Cast on 3 sts and work even in stockinette st until band is required length to fit around armhole edge. Bind off.

ASSEMBLING AND FINISHING: Seam shoulders and underarms. Sew in sleeves. Place armband on top of armhole seam, having purl side of band facing right side of coat. Sew neatly to seam, thus forming flat band trim. Hem bottom edge and sew facing to front edge, placing knit side of facing to wrong side of coat. On right side, work 1 row of SC along front edge, working through both thicknesses. Hold knit sides of collar tog and join by work­ing 1 row of SC around 3 sides of collar, then sew collar to neck edge, easing in neck. Fold cuff back, allowing edge to roll (see illustration) and tack in place at sleeve seam and opposite side.
