SIZES: 36 (38-40-42)

Instructions are for Size 36. Changes for Sizes 38, 40 and 42 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS: SPINNERIN Moth-Proofed WHIRL-KNIT 10 (11-12-13) 2-oz. Skeins
1 Pr each of Knitting Needles Nos. 6 and 10
1 Set Double-Pointed Needles (d.p.n.) No. 8 (only 1 used)

GAUGE: 4 sts =1 in; 11 rows = 2 ins
Important: Accurate gauge is absolutely essential.

PATTERN: A Multiple of 12 plus 4.

Row 1 (right side): K4, *P8, K4; repeat from * across.

Row 2 and all even rows: Knit the K sts and purl the P sts.

Row 3: Work a cable twist over the first and every other K4 rib as follows: Slip the first 2 sts on d.p.n. and hold in back, K next 2 sts from left-hand needle, then K the 2 sts from d.p.n.

Repeat Row 2, then repeat Rows 1 and 2 once.

Row 7: Repeat Row 3.

Work 7 rows in Rib pattern.

Row 15: Repeat Row 3, working cable twist on 2nd and every other K4 rib.

Work 3 rows in Rib pattern.

Repeat Row 15.

Work 7 rows even in Rib pattern.

Repeat from Row 3 for pattern.

BACK: With No. 6 needles, cast on 72 (76-80-84) sts and work in ribbing of K2, P2 for 3 ins. Change to No. 10 needles and pattern.

For Size 36 Only: Start with K2 and repeat from * in Row 1, ending with K2. Keep these 2 sts at each end in Garter St.

For Size 38 Only: Work as given above.

For Sizes 40 and 42 Only: Start with P2, K4 (P4, K4); repeat from * in pattern and work in pattern as given, ending with P2 (P4). Work even in pattern until 14½ (14½-15-15) ins from start or required length to armhole. Shape Armhole: Bind off 4 (5-5-6) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each end of every other row 3 times (58 (60-64-66) sts). Work even until armhole is 7½ (7¾-8-8½) ins. Shape Shoulder: Bind off 8 (8-9-9) sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining 26 (28-28-30) sts for back of neck.

FRONT: Work same as for back.

SLEEVE: With No. 6 needles, cast on 32 (36-36-40) sts and work in ribbing for 3 ins. Change to No. 10 needles and pattern, starting Row 1 as follows:

For Size 36 Only: Work from * in pattern, ending with P8.

For Sizes 38 and 40 Only: Start with K2; repeat from * in pattern, ending with K2.

For Size 42 Only: Work in pattern as given. Being care­ful to keep to pattern, inc 1 st each end of every 1 (1-¾-1) in 14 (14-15-13) times (60 (64-66-66) sts). Work even until 18 (18-18½-18½) ins from start or required length to underarm. Bind off 3 (4-4-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each end of every 4 rows, 3 times, then every other row until 34 sts remain on needle. Bind off 5 (5-4-4) sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining 14 (14-18-18) sts.

ASSEMBLING AND FINISHNG: Seam shoulders, underarms and sleeves. Sew in sleeves. Hem neck edge hav­ing 1-in hem at center back and 1½-in hem at center front.
