MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY WOOL, 1 ball (1 oz. ball) for the set.
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 6 (4¼ mm. size).
1½ yds. ribbon, ⅝ inch wide.
2 buttons.

GAUGE: 6 sts make 1 inch; 9 rows make 1 inch.

CAP

Cast on 5 sts. 1st, 3rd and 5th rows: Purl across. 2nd row: (Inc. 1 st in next st) 4 times, k 1—9 sts. 4th row: (Inc. 1 st in next st) 8 times, k 1—17 sts. 6th row: (Inc. 1 st in next st) 16 times, k 1—33 sts. 7th row: K across (1 ridge made on right side). 8th row: K across. 9th row: P across. 10th and 11th rows: Repeat 8th and 9th rows. 12th row: K across, increasing 16 sts evenly across row (49 sts). Repeat the 7th to 12th rows incl. 2 more times (81 sts on needle). Increasing is now completed. Next row: K across. Following row: K 2 tog., k across to within last 2 sts, k 2 tog. Next row: P across. Continue in this manner, decreasing 1 st at both ends of every 4th row and making a ridge on right side every 6th row as before, until 69 sts remain. Work straight until there are 9 ridges in all. Bind off on next row.

CUFF … Cast on 8 sts. 1st row: K 2, p 6. 2nd row: K 5, k 2 tog., k 1. 3rd row: K 2, p 5. 4th row: K 4, k 2 tog., k 1. 5th row: K 2, p 4. 6th row: K 3, k 2 tog., k 1. 7th row: K 2, p 3. 8th row: K 3, inc. 1 st in next st, k 1. 9th row: K 2, p 4. 10th row: K 4, inc. 1 st in next st, k 1. 11th row: K 2, p 5. 12th row: K 5, inc. 1 st in next st, k 1. Repeat these 12 rows for pattern 7 more times. Bind off.
   Sew seam at center back to point where first decreases were made. Sew on cuff. Work 1 row of s c along neck edge. Press through damp cloth. Make 2 bows and sew on cap as in illustration; trim ends.

SHOES

RIGHT SHOE … Sole … Cast on 10 sts. 1st row: K across. 2nd row: K 1, p 8, k 1. Repeat these 2 rows alternately for 3 inches. Still keeping 1 st at both ends in garter stitch, dec. 1 st at both ends of every other row until 6 sts remain (toe). Bind off.

TOP … Cast on 34 sts and knit 3 rows. Next row: K 21, turn and work for toe piece as follows: 1st row: K 8, turn. 2nd row: K 8, turn. 3rd row: P 8, turn. 4th row: K 8, turn. Repeat these 4 rows 3 more times. Next row: K across (4 ridges on right side). Now work in stockinette stitch, decreasing 1 st at both ends of every other row until 4 sts remain at toe. Bind off. With right side facing, attach yarn at end of 13 sts on right-hand needle, pick up 28 sts around edges of toe piece, and k across the 13 sts on left-hand needle. Work in garter stitch (k each row) over these 54 sts until side has 7 ridges in all, from cast-on edge. Bind off.

STRAP … Sew up back seam. Cast on 8 sts; with right side facing, pick up 6 sts across back 1 inch of shoe, and cast on 20 sts (34 sts in all). Work in garter stitch for 4 rows. Then make a buttonhole at long end of strap by working k 2, k 2 tog., O. Work 4 more rows and bind off. Sew in sole. Work other shoe to correspond. Sew on buttons.
