Size 2 and 3 Years Measurements—Pullover—Chest 21 (22) ins. Length to back of neck 10 ¾ (11 ½) ins. Pants—Width 20 (21) ins. around. Length from crotch to top of waistband at back 9 (10) ins. PULLOVER Back—With blue and size 1 needles, cast on 84 sts. Work k 2, p 2 ribbing for 1 ½ ins. Change to size 2 needles. Join white, begin stripes. Work stockinette st—k 1 row, p 1 row—working 2 rows each of white, yellow, white and blue, carrying yarn not in use loosely along edge. Repeat these 8 rows for stripes. Work even until 4 ¾ (5 ½) ins. above ribbing, end with yellow stripe. Armholes—Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 3 times; 72 (76) sts. Work even until 4 ¼ ins. above underarm, end with yellow stripe. Shoulders—Bind off 7 (8) sts at beginning of next row, work until 14 sts on needle, bind off next 30 (32) sts for back of neck, work remaining 21 (22) sts for left shoulder. Bind off 7 sts 3 times for size 2 years, (for size 3 years, 8 sts once and 7 sts twice) on rows beginning from armhole edge. Beginning at neck edge, complete other shoulder to correspond. Front—Work same as back until 3 ins. above underarm, end with first row of white stripe. Next row—P 26 (27) sts, place on holder for right side, bind off next 20 (22) sts for neck, p 26 (27) sts. Dec. 1 st at neck edge, every row 5 times. Work even until the same number of rows as on back, above underarm. Shape shoulder as on back. Beginning at neck edge, work other side to correspond. Sleeves—With white and size 1 needles, cast on 64 sts. P 1 row. With yellow k 1 row, p 1 row, with white k 1 row, p 1 row; with blue k 2 rows, turning ridge of hem. Change to size 2 needles, continue in pattern, until 3 ¼ ins. above turning ridge, end with yellow stripe. Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side of next row; repeat dec. every 2nd row 7 times. Bind off 42 sts. Finishing—Sew shoulders for 7 (8) sts from armhole edge. With blue, beginning at neck edge of left shoulder of back, work 14 sc to shoulder seam, continue on front shoulder working 14 sc to neck edge; ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each of 3 sts, ch 2, skip 2 sts for buttonhole, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, break yarn. Working from same side, work 1 sc in each st of back shoulder. Fasten off. Work other shoulder to correspond. Back Neck Ribbing—Join blue at neck edge of right shoulder. Working from right side with size 1 needles, pick up and k 4 (5) sts on side of neck edge, 30 (32) sts over bound-off sts and 4 (5) sts on other side; 38 (42) sts. First row—P 2, * k 2, p 2; repeat from * to end. 2nd row—K 2, * p 2, k 2; repeat from * to end. Repeat these 2 rows until there are 7 rows. Bind off in ribbing. Front Neck Ribbing—Join blue at neck edge of left shoulder. Working from right side with size 1 needles, pick up and k 15 (16) sts on left neck edge, 20 (22) sts over bound-off sts, 15 (16) sts on other side; 50 (54) sts. Work ribbing for 3 rows. Next row—right side—K 2, bind off next 2 sts, work ribbing to within 4 sts of end, bind off 2 sts, finish row. Cast on 2 sts over bound-off sts on next row; finish row. Cast on 2 sts over bound-off sts on next row; finish as ribbing on back neck. Sew underarm and sleeve seams matching stripes. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm matching stripes on sleeves and armhole. Turn up hem of sleeve on wrong side and sew. PANTS Left Half—With blue and size 1 needles, cast on 80 (84) sts. Work k 2, p 2 ribbing for 8 rows. Change to size 2 needles, work stockinette st, k 1 row, p 1 row, for 6 ½ (7 ½) ins. end with p row—back edge. Short rows—K 52 (56), turn, slip 1, p 51 (55). 3rd row—K 46 (50), turn, slip 1, p 45 (49). Continue in this way, working 6 sts less every k row 6 times more, last row being slip 1, p 9 (13). Change to size 1 needles, work ribbing for 8 rows, end at back edge. Continue ribbing, work 16 sts, bind off 2 sts for buttonhole, work to end. Cast on 2 sts over buttonhole on next row. Work 8 rows. Bind off in ribbing. Right Half—Work same as left half, up to short rows, end at back with k row. First short row—P 52 (56) turn, slip 1, k 51 (55). Working 6 sts less on p instead of k rows, finish to correspond to left half, starting ribbing and first buttonhole row on wrong side. Gusset—Cast on 16 sts on size 2 needles. Work stockinette st for 2 ins. Bind off. Suspenders—Cast on 8 sts on size 1 needles. First row—Inc. 1 st in every st; 16 sts. Work k 1, p 1 ribbing for 11 (13) ins. or to within 4 ins. of desired length. Bind off as follows: k 1, * k 2 tog, slip first st over 2 tog st; repeat from * to end. Make 2. Finishing—Sew front and back seams to within 2 ins. of lower edge. Sew edges of gusset to last 2 ins. Finish buttonholes. Block, see page 55. Block suspenders stretching 4 ins. Fold one end of suspenders in half, sew into a point. Sew a button at center of point over waistband 2 ins. from front seam. Sew a button at free end of each suspender. Cross them at back. |
