Size 1 and 2 Years Instructions are written for size 1 year, changes for size 2 years are in parentheses. Materials—Fleisher’s Wonderized Babyfair, 3 balls White, 3 balls Color; or Fleisher’s Wonderized De Luxe Sock and Sport Yarn, 3 skeins White, 3 skeins Color. White Knitting Needles, 1 pair each Sizes 0 and 1. Gauge: 17 sts = 2 inches PANTS Measurements—Width 22 (23) ins. around waist. Side seams 8 ½ (9 ½) ins. Back—With size 0 needles and color, cast on 94 (98) sts. Work ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 4 rows. Make 3 buttonholes as follows: Work first 24 sts of next row, turn; work ribbing on these 24 sts for 4 more rows, break off; * join yarn, work next 23 (25) sts of last long row in ribbing for 5 rows, break off; repeat from * twice working 24 sts on last repeat. Do not break yarn. Work 4 rows ribbing on all sts. Change to size 1 needles. K 1 row. Continue in stockinette st, working short rows as follows:--P 54 (56) sts, turn, slip 1, k 13, turn, slip 1, p 12, pick up next st in row below on right needle, p next –slipped—st, pass picked up st over last st worked; this prevents a hole and will be referred to as “pick up, purl and pass,” p next 6 sts, turn; slip 1, k 18, pick up next st in row below on right needle, k next—slipped—st, pass picked up st over last st worked; this will be referred to as “pick up, k and pass”, k 6; turn, slip 1, p 24, pick up, p and pass, p 6; turn, slip 1, k 30, pick up, k and pass, k 6. Continue working 6 more sts in each of the next 8 rows, turn; slip 1, p 84, pick up, p and pass, p to end. Next row, k 89 (91), pick up, k and pass, k to end. Work even on all sts until piece measures 7 (8) ins. at sides from top of ribbing, end with p row. Crotch—First Inc. row—K 43 (45), inc. 1 st in next st, k 6, inc. 1 st in next st, k 43 (45). P 1 row. 2nd inc. row—K 43 (45), inc. in next st, k 8, inc. in next st, k 43 (45). Repeat increases after every inc. row; 104 (108) sts. P 1 row. Continuing to inc. at crotch every k row, work short rows as follows: Work to within 8 sts of end, turn; slip 1, p to within 8 sts of end, turn; slip 1, work to within 8 sts of end of last row, turn; slip 1, p to within 8 sts of end of last row. Continue in this way, working 8 sts less every row and increasing every k row as before for 6 rows more, end with p row. Next row—Turn, slip 1, k 2 (4), inc. 1 st in next st, k 26, inc. in next st; working slipped sts as before to prevent holes, k all remaining sts. Turn, p across entire row, working slipped sts as before to prevent holes; 116 (120) sts. Dec. row--* K 6, k 2 tog *; repeat between *’s 4 times, k 36 (40), k 2 tog, repeat between *’s 4 times, k 6. P 1 row. Hemline row—K 1, * yo, k 2 tog *; repeat between *’s 17 (18) times, k 1; bind off next 30 sts for crotch, with 1 st on needle, repeat between *’s 18 (19) times, k 1. Working on last 38 (40) sts for right leg, p 1 row, k 1 row. Bind off as to p. Finish other leg to correspond. Front—Work same as back omitting short rows after ribbing. Finishing—Sew front and back crotch together. Sew side seams, leaving 5 rows free in center of ribbing for buttonholes at each side. Turn up legs at hemline row, hem on wrong side. Finish buttonholes. Steam. BLOUSE Measurements—Chest 20 (21) ins. Length from lower edge to back of neck 9 ¼ (10 ½) ins. Sleeves—Width 7 ¾ (8 ¼) ins. Back—With size 0 needles and white, cast on 84 (88) sts, work k 1, p 1, ribbing for 8 rows. Change to size 1 needles; work stockinette st until 5 ¼ (6 ¼) ins. from beginning. Armholes—Bind off 4 (5) sts at beginning of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row twice; 72 (74) sts. Work even until 4 (4 ¼) ins. from underarm. Bind off. Front—Work same as back until 4 ½ (5 ½) ins. from beginning, end with p row. Next row, k 42 (44) sts for left front, place remaining sts on a thread for right front. Work even on sts of left front until same length as back to underarm. Armhole—Shape same as armhole of back, keeping front edge even; 36 (37) sts. Work even until 2 ¾ ins. above underarm, end at front edge. Next row, bind off 6 sts for neck edge, finish row. Dec. 1 st at neck edge every row 6 times. Work even until 4 (4 ¼) ins. from underarm. Bind off. Join yarn at center front; work other side to correspond. Sleeves—With color and size 0 needles, cast on 51 (55) sts for cuff. K 1 row, p 1 row. Hemline row—K 1, * yo, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. P 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row. With size 1 needles and white, k 1 row, inc. 1 st in first st; then p 1 row, k 1 row for 6 rows. K 1 row for turnback. W k 2, p 2 ribbing, for 5 rows. Inc. row—right side—K 1, inc. 1 st in next st, k 20 (22), inc. 1 st in each of next 8 sts, k 20 (22), inc. 1 st in next st, k 1. Work stockinette st (p 1 row, k 1 row), increasing 1 st each side every 4th row twice; 66 (70) sts. Work even until 2 ½ (3) ins. from first row of ribbing. Bind off 4 (5) sts at beginning of next 2 rows of ribbing. Bind off 4 (5) sts at beginning of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row twice. Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 10 rows. Final row—K 4 (5), k 2 tog 8 times, k 4 (5). Bind off 16 (18) sts. Collar—With color and size 0 needles, cast on 115 (119) sts. K 1 row, p 1 row. Hemline—K 1, * yo, k 2 tog; repeat from * to end. P 1 row, k 1 row. Next row—Bind off 15 sts as to p, p to within 15 sts of end, bind off last 15 sts. Break color. Change to size 1 needles. Join white, creasing 1 st each side every 3rd row 4 times; 77 (81) sts. K 1 row. Short rows for left side—P 26, turn; slip 1, k to within 2 sts of end, k 2 tog, turn; p 19, turn; slip 1, k to end, turn; p 2 tog, p 11, turn; slip 1, k to end. Next row, bind off all sts to within 26 sts of end; p last 26 sts, turn. Short rows for right side—K 2 tog, k 18, turn; slip 1, p to end, turn; k 13; slip 1, p to within 2 sts of end, p 2 tog, turn. Bind off all sts. Vest Band—With color and size 0 needles, cast on 77 sts. K 1 row, p 1 row. Hemline—K 1, * yo, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. P 1 row, k 1 row. Bind off as to p. Fold on hemline and overcast bound-off and cast-on edges tog. Finishing—Turn up colored border on cuffs at hemline, sew on wrong side. Turn up colored border on collar and sew; sew bound-off and cast-on edges of sts bound off each side to respective side edges of collar. Sew 24 (25) sts of front shoulders to corresponding number of sts on back. Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm. Turn up cuffs at turnback row. Sew collar to neck edge. Pin center of Vest Band at lower edge of front opening and each end at neck edge 6 sts from front edges; sew to front of blouse as illustrated. Working from right side, with white work 22 sc on right edge of opening; fasten off. With color, beginning at lower edge of left front opening, work 22 sc to neck edge. Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first st. * ch 2, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc; repeat from * 3 times, end last repeat 1 sc in each st to lower edge. Fasten off. Steam, see page 55. Sew 4 small buttons opposite buttonloops. Sew 8 larger buttons on blouse at desired waistline, opposite buttonholes in pants. |
