Materials—Fleisher’s Fleecy Zephyr, 1 skein.

White Knitting Needle, 1 pair each Sizes 1 and 3.
White Crochet Hook, Size 1.

Gauge: Size 3 needles—7 sts = 1 inch; 19 rows = 2 inches

With size 1 needles, cast on 111 sts.

First row (wrong side)—P 1, * k 1, p 1; repeat from * to end.

2nd row—K 1, * p 1, k 1; repeat from * to end. Repeat these 2 rows 6 times more. Work stockinette st (p 1 row, k 1 row) for 6 rows. Change to size 3 needles.

Pattern—First row (wrong side)—P 2, * yarn to back of work, slip next 3 sts as to p, yarn to front (carry loosely across the 3 slipped sts), p 1, *; repeat between *’s, end last repeat p 2. K 1 row. P 1 row.

4th row—K 3, * insert right hand needle under loop in 3rd row below and into next st on left needle, k the loop and st together, k 3 *; repeat between *’s to end.

5th row—P 1, yarn to back, slip 2, yarn to front, p 1; repeat between *’s of first row to within 3 sts of end, yarn to back, slip 2, yarn to front, p 1, K 1 row. P 1 row.

8th row—K 1, repeat between *’s of 4th row, end last repeat k 1. Work stockinette st for 6 rows. Repeat these 14 rows of pattern twice more, end with k row.

Face Border—Work ribbing as in first 2 rows, for 7 rows. Bind off firmly (edge should measure about 14 ½ ins.).

Halo Ruffle—Holding bound-off edge toward you with right side up, using size 3 needles, pick up and k 1 st in center of 15th st from right hand edge in 7th row from bound-off edge of face border ribbing, * pick up and k 2 sts in next p rib (picking up 1 st under each of 2 threads in this rib), pick up and k 1 st in next k rib; repeat from * to within 14 sts of end of row (124 sts). Work ribbing for 10 rows. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Finishing—Run a gathering thread through cast-on sts and draw up to form a hole 1 in. in diameter for center of crown. Sew edges together from edge of hole to center of middle stripe of pattern, leaving 3 ins. free on each edge for neck edge. Join yarn at left corner of neck edge, work 42 sc on neck edge. Fasten off.

Crown Center—Ch 4, work 16 tr in 4th st from hook, join. Fasten off. Sew this circle to edges of hole at crown center. Steam.

Halo—Bend ends of a 20 ½ in. piece of Hat wire over for ½ in., sew ends to corners of halo ruffle. Join yarn at left corner of ruffle, work sc over wire, working 1 sc in each bound-off st of ruffle. Fasten off. Sew ends of ruffle along first row of face ribbing so that corners will be 5 sts from neck edge. Sew on ribbon for tie strings.
