Coat Sweater

These directions are for Size 14. Changes for Sizes 16, 18 and 20 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein) - 6(6-7-8) skeins
OR
Columbia-Minerva Calypso Germantown Knitting Worsted (2 or 4 oz skein) - 24(26-30-32) ozs
Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 8 and 10 - 14 inch
Gauge: 5 sts to 1 inch; 7 rows to 1 inch (St St-Size 8 needles)
1 "Boye" Steel Crochet Hook Size 1

BACK: With Size 8 needles cast on 96(102-108-112) sts. Work in St St for 4 rows, P 1 row on right side of work for turn of hem. Continue in St St until work measures 18” (18”-18 ½”-18 ½”), or desired length from turn of hem to underarm. To Shape Raglan Armholes: Bind off 2(3-3-3) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side as follows: Row 1: (Right side of work) K 2, sl 1, K 1, psso, K across to within last 4 sts, K 2 tog, K 2. Row 2: P. Repeat these 2 rows 31(32-34-36) times more. Bind off rem 28(30-32-32) sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT: With Size 8 needles cast on 56(59-62-65) sts. Work in St St for 4 rows, P 1 row on right side of work for turn of hem, casting on 9 sts at end of row for front border and facing - 65(68-71-74) sts on needle. P 1 row then work in St St as follows: Row 1: K across to last 5 sts, sl 1, K 4 (front border). Row 2: P. Repeat these 2 rows. When front edge measures 12”(12”-12 ½”-12 ½”) from turn of hem, To Shape Neck: Bind off 5 sts at front edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every 3rd row 0(4-4-4) times, then every 4th row 25(22-23-24) times more AND AT THE SAME TIME when work measures same as Back to underarm, To Shape Raglan Armhole: Bind off 2(3-3-3) sts at side edge, then dec as follows: Row 1: (Right side of work) K 2, sl 1, K 1, psso, K to end of row. Row 2: P. Repeat these 2 rows 31(32-34-36) times more. Bind off last st.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with Left Front, shaping armhole as follows: Bind off 2(3-3-3) sts at side edge, then dec as follows: Row 1: (Right side of work) K across to last 4 sts, K 2 tog, K 2. Row 2: P. Repeat these 2 rows 31(32-34-36) times more.

SLEEVES: With Size 8 needles cast on 48(50-52-54) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 1 ½ inches, inc'ing 4 sts across last row. Change to St St, inc'ing 1 st each side every 6th row 11(12-13-13) times - 74(78-82-84) sts on needle. When work measures 16 ½”(16 ½”-17”-17”), or desired length from start to underarm, To Shape Raglan Cap of Sleeve: Work same as armholes of Back until 8 sts rem, then work 2(2-2-4) more rows even. Bind off rem 8 sts.

COLLAR-RIGHT HALF: With Size 10 needles cast on 128(130-134-136) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, throughout as follows: Work 2 rows even. Bind off 6 sts in ribbing at beg of next row (neck edge), then bind off 6 sts at same edge 1 time more. Change to Size 8 needles. Bind off 4 sts at neck edge every other row 9(10-13-15) times, then 3 sts at same edge every other row 7(6-3-1) times, then 10 sts at same edge every other row 5 times. Bind off rem 9(1011-11) sts for back of neck.

Work Left Half of Collar the same.

BELT: With Size 8 needles cast on 12 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for about 48 inches (or desired length). Bind off. Turn corners under at each end of Belt to form point. Work 1 row of sl st around entire Belt.

Sew Sleeves to Fronts and Back. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Sew seam at center back of Collar. Sew bound-off edge of Collar to neck edge, starting and ending at front facing. Turn under facings and sew in place. Turn up hem at lower edge and sew. Make 2 loops for Belt about 2 inches long and sew to side edge about 6 inches below underarm.
