Slipover Sweater
These directions are for Size 10. Changes for Sizes 12, 14 and 16 are in parentheses.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Skylark Sports Yarn (2 oz skein) - Light Color (LC) - 3(4-4-4) skeins; Dark Color (DC) - 3(3-3-4) skeins
Knitting Needles: 1 pair "Boye" Size 6 - 14 inch
Gauge: 5 ½ sts to 1 inch; 11 rows to 1 inch
BACK: With LC cast on 73(79-85-91) sts. Row 1: (Wrong side of work) With LC - K. Row 2: With DC - 0(K 3 - K 2 - K 1), *with yarn in back of work sl 1 as if to P, K 3, repeat from * across, ending sl 1, then 0(K 3 - K 2 - K 1). Row 3: With DC 0(K 3 - K 2 - K 1), *with yarn in front of work sl 1 as if to P, yarn in back K 3, repeat from * across, ending sl 1then 0(K 3 - K 2 - K 1). Rows 4 and 5: With LC - K. Row 6: With DC - K 2(K 1- 0 - K 3), repeat from * of Row 2, ending sl 1, then K 2(K 1 - 0 - K 3). Row 7: With DC - K 2(K 1 - 0 - K 3), repeat from * of Row 3, ending sl 1, then K 2(K 1 0- K 3). Row 8: With LC - K. Repeat these 8 rows for pat, inc'ing 1 st each side every 2 inches 5 times - 83(89-95-101) sts on needle. When work measures 11 ½”(12”-12”-12 ½”), or desired length from start to underarm, To Shape Armholes: Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 5 times - 63(69-75-81) sts on needle. When armholes measure 7 ½”(7 ½”-8”-8”), measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm, To Shape Shoulders: Bind off 5(6-7-8) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then bind off 6(7-8-9) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 41(43-45-47) sts for back of neck.
FRONT: Work same as Back until armholes measure 5”(5”-5 ½”-5 ½”), measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm - 63(69-75-81) sts on needle. To Shape Neck: Work across 24(26-29-31) sts, sl these sts onto st holder, bind off next 15(17-17-19) sts and on rem sts work Right Front as follows: Bind off 3 sts at neck edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 10(10-11-11) times. When armhole measures same as at Back, To Shape Shoulder: Bind off 5(6-7-8) sts at armhole edge every other row 1 time, then bind off 6(7-8-9) sts at same edge 1 time. Sl sts from st holder onto needle and work Left Front to correspond with Right Front.
SLEEVES: With LC cast on 51(53-57-59) sts. Work in pat as follows: Row 1: (Wrong side of work) With LC - K. Rows 2 and 3: With DC - K 3(0 - K 2 - K 3), *sl 1, K 3, repeat from * across, ending sl 1, then K 3(0 - K 2 - K 3). Rows 4 and 5: With LC - K. Rows 6 and 7: With DC - K 1(K 2 - 0 K 1), *sl 1, K 3, repeat from * across, ending sl 1, then K 1(K 2 - 0 - K 1). Row 8: With LC - K. Repeat these 8 rows for pat, inc'ing 1 st each side every 10th row 10 times - 71(73-77-79) sts on needle. When work measures 12 inches, or desired length from start to underarm, To Shape Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row until 11(11-13-13) sts rem. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 7(7-9-9) sts.
COLLAR: With LC cast on 97(101-101-105) sts. Work in pat as follows: Row 1: (Wrong side of work) With LC - K. Rows 2 and 3: With DC - 0(K 2 - K 2 - 0), *sl 1, K 3, repeat from * across, ending sl 1, then 0(K 2 - K 2 - 0). Rows 4 and 5: With LC - K. Rows 6 and 7: With DC - K 2(0 - 0 - K 2), *sl 1, K 3, repeat from * across, ending sl 1, then K 2(0 - 0 - K 2). Row 8: With LC - K. Repeat these 8 rows for pat. When work measures about 6 inches from start, ending with Row 1 or 5, with LC bind off.
Sew shoulder seams. Sew Sleeves in place. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Sew side edges of Collar tog. Sew cast-on edge of Collar to neck edge, having seam of Collar at left shoulder seam. Fold Collar over as illustrated.
