MATERIAL:
1 ball Sport yarn m.c. (2 oz. ball)
1 ball Sport yarn c.c. (1 oz. ball)
1 set sock needles each No. 1 and No. 2 (for medium size)
1 set sock needles each No. 1 and No. 3 (for large size)
PATTERN:
1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th round: * P 1, K 1 repeat from * all around.
5th, 6th, 7th and 8th round: * K 1, P 1 repeat from * all around.
Repeat these 8 rounds for pattern.
With m.c. and No. 1 needles cast on 52 sts. (16-20-16). Join, being careful not to twist sts. Work in ribbing K 1, P 1 for 1 inch. drop m.c., attach c.c. Work in ribbing K 1, P 1 for 2 rows, drop c.c., pick up m.c. Work in ribbing K 1, P 1 for 6 rows, drop m.c., pick up c.c. Work in ribbing K 1, P 1 for 6 rows. Break off c.c. Pick up m.c. and work in ribbing K 1, P 1 until cuff measures 3 inch. Change to No. 2 needles (for large size No. 3 needles) and pattern. Work even for ½ inch, ending with 6th round. Now start to incr. for THUMB. 1st increase round: insert marker, incr. 1 st., K 1, incr. 1 st. (insert marker) Work to end of round in pattern. Work 2 rounds in pattern, without increasing and keep the 3 thumb sts. in stock. st. 2nd increase round: incr. 1 st., K 3, incr. 1 st., work to end of round in pattern. Work 2 rounds in pattern without increasing and keep the 5 thumb sts. in stock. st. Continue to incr. 1 st. after the first and before the 2nd marker every 3rd round, having 2 more sts. between the increases and keeping the thumb sts. in stock. st. until there are 17 sts. in thumb gore. Slip these sts. to a safety pin and cast on 5 sts. (56 sts. in round). Join and work in pattern for 2 (2 ¼) inch., ending with either 4th or 8th round. Slip all the sts. on to a thread. Take off for FOREFINGER: 8 sts. from back and 8 sts. from palm of hand and cast on 2 sts. in between, divide the sts. on 3 needles and work in stock. st. for 2 ¾ (3) inch. Next round: * K 2, K 2 tog., repeat from * all around. Work 1 round even. Next round: K 2 tog. all around. Break the yarn and leave about a 7 inch end. Thread a tapestry needle with this end and run twice through the remaining sts. Pull sts. tog. and fasten off on wrong side. Take off from thread for MIDDLE FINGER: 7 sts. from back of hand, pick up 2 sts. on the 2 sts. cast on for forefinger, take off 7 sts. from palm of hand and cast on 2 sts. between palm and back of hand. Divide the sts. on 3 needles and work in stock, st. for 3 (3 ¼) inch. Decrease and finish as forefinger. Take off from thread for RING FINGER: 7 sts. from back of hand, pick up 2 sts. on the 2 sts. cast on for middlefinger, take off 6 sts. from palm of hand and cast on 2 sts. between palm and back of hand. Divide the sts. on 3 needles and work in stock, st. for 2 ¾ (3) inch. Decrease and finish as forefinger. Take off from thread for LITTLE FINGER the remaining 13 sts. and pick up 2 sts. on the 2 sts. cast on for ringfinger. Divide the sts. on 3 needles and work in stock, st. for 2 (2 ¼) inch. Decrease and finish as forefinger. THUMB: Pick up the sts. from safety pin and 5 sts. on the 5 cast on sts., divide them on 3 needles and work in stock, st. for 2 ¼ (2 ½) inch. Decrease and finish as forefinger. Work other glove to correspond.
