MATERIAL:
2 balls Sock yarn m.c. (1 oz. ball)
1 ball Sock yarn c.c. (1 oz. ball)
1 set sock needles each No. 1 and No. 2
1 card Nylon for heel and toe reinforcement

GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:

Entire sock is worked in ribbing K 6, P 2. Every 1 ½ inch. a c.c. dot is worked in every other K 6 rib as follows:

1st round: * K 2 m.c. attach a strand of c.c., K 2 c.c., drop c.c., pick up m.c. carrying it loosely in back, K 2, P 2, K 6, P 2. Repeat from * across round.

2nd round: * K 1 m.c., pick up c.c. carrying it loosely in back, K 4 c.c., drop c.c., pick up m.c. carrying it loosely in back, K 1 m.c., P 2, K 6, P 2.

Repeat from * across round.

3rd and 4th round: like 2nd round.

5th round: like 1st round.

Work even in ribbing K 6, P 2 for 1 ½ inch., then work pattern from 1st to 5th round incl. in the other K 6 rib.

With m.c. and No. 1 needles cast on 64 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Work in ribbing K 2, P 2 for 2 ½ inch. Change to No. 2 needles and rib pattern: K 6, P 2. After ½ inch work pattern starting with 1st row. Cont. to work this way until sock measures 8 inch. or any des. length to heel. Slip next 32 sts. on to one needle for heel (starting with a P 1 rib and ending with a P 1 rib). Divide the rem. 32 sts. on 2 needles for instep. Attach Nylon and work over heel needle only. 1st row: (right side) * slip 1, K 1, repeat from * across row. 2nd row: P across row. Repeat these 2 rows for 28 rows. Start to shape heel: (right side facing you) slip 1, K 16, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 5, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Slip 1, K 6, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 7, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Slip 1, K 8, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Slip 1, P 9, P 2 tog., P 1, turn. Continue to work this way always having one more st. on each row until 18 sts. are left on heel needle. Cut off Nylon. With another needle (1st needle) pick up and K 14 sts. along one side of heel. Work across all instep sts. in pattern. With another needle (3rd needle), pick up and K 14 sts. along other side of heel and K half of heel sts. to same needle. Slip the rem. heel sts. to first needle, end at center of sole. Decr. for instep as follows: 1st round: On 1st needle K to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1. Work across instep sts. in pattern. On 3rd needle: K 1, slip 1, K 1 and p.s.s.o. the K st. K to end. 2nd round: Work instep sts. in pattern, K the rem. sts. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 64 sts. left in round. (Cont. to keep the pattern on instep needle until toe decr. starts.) Work even until foot measures from tip of heel 8 ½ inch. for size 10 ½, 9 inch. for size 11 or 2 inch. less than des. length when finished. Start to de¬crease for toe: Attach Nylon. 1st round: On 1st needle, K to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1; on 2nd needle, K 1, slip 1, K 1, p.s.s.o. the K st., K across to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1; on 3rd needle, K 1, slip 1, K 1, p.s.s.o. the K to end. 2nd round: K around. Repeat these 2 rounds until 20 sts. are left. Weave sts. tog. and steam lightly.
