Medium Size

MATERIAL:
4 balls Angora (45 yards a ball)
1 set bone sock needles No. 2 and No. 4

GAUGE: 5 sts. = 1 inch

Cast on 44 sts. (16-6-12) with No. 2 needles. Join and work in ribbing K2, P2, for 2½ inch. Change to plain K and No. 4 needles and work even for 1¼ inch. Now start to increase for thumb at beg. of next round: Incr. 1 st., K1, incr. 1 st., K to end of round. Work 2 rounds even. Next round: incr. 1 st., K3, incr. 1 st., K to end of round. Work 2 rounds even. Continue this way to incr. 1 st. on each side of thumb gore every 3rd round having 2 more sts. between the increases until 13 sts. in thumb gore. Slip these sts. to a safety pin, cast on 3 sts., join and work even for 3¼ inch, decreasing 4 sts. in last round (42 sts. left). Now start to decrease for tip:
* K4, K2 tog. repeat from * across round, K2 rounds even.
* K3, K2 tog. repeat from * across round, K2 rounds even.
* K2, K2 tog. repeat from * across round, K1 round even.
* K1, K2 tog. repeat from * across round, K1 round even.
K2 tog. across round, break yarn leaving a 6 inch end, thread a tapestry needle with this end and run twice through rem. sts., pull sts. tog, and fasten off.
Thumb: Slip the 13 sts. from safety pin to 2 needles and pick up 3 sts. with 3rd needle on 3 cast on sts. and work even for 2 inch.
* K2, K2 tog. repeat from * across round, K1 round even.
* K1, K2 tog. repeat from * across round, K1 round even.
K2 tog. across round, break yarn leaving a 4 inch end.
Finish thumb as tip of mitten. Make other mitten to correspond.
