MATERIALS—Bear Brand Tricolaine, Jacket, 14 (15-16) skeins.
Skirt, 14 (15-17) skeins.
Bucilla Circular Steel Knitting Needle, Size 2.
Bucilla Featherlite Aluminum Knitting Needles, 1 pair Size 2.

MEASUREMENTS OF GARMENT—Jacket—at bustline buttoned 34 (36-38) ins.
Width of back at underarm 16½ (17½-18½) ins.
Sleeves—width at underarm 12½ (13-13½) ins.

GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch

JACKET

BACK—With size 2 straight needles, cast on 134 (142-150) sts. Working stockinette st—p 1 row, k 1 row—, dec. 1 st each side every 1 in. twice; 130 (138-146) sts. Work even until 3 ins. from beg., end with p row.
3rd dec. row—K 2 tog., k 36 (38-40), k 2 tog., place a marker for dart before next st, k 2 tog., k 46 (50-54), k 2 tog., place a marker for 2nd dart before next st, k 2 tog., k 36 (38-40), k 2 tog. Carry markers up to end of darts; 124 (132-140) sts. Continue to dec. 1 st at beg. and end of row and 1 st each side of markers every 1 in. 4 times; 100 (108-116) sts. Work even until 8 ins. from beg.
First inc. row—Inc. 1 st in first st, 1 st each side of dart markers, 1 st in last st; 106 (114-122) sts. Repeat inc. row every 1 in. 3 times; 124 (132-140) sts.
This completes darts. Continuing stockinette st, inc. 1 st each side every ¾ in. 4 times; 132 (140-148) sts. Work even until 15½ ins. from beg.

Armholes—Bind off 8 (9-10) sts at beg. of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 8 (9-10) times; 100 (104-108) sts. Work even until armhole measures 4 ins., straight up from underarm. Inc. 1 st each side of next row; repeat incs. every 1 in. 3 times; 108 (112-116) sts. Work even until armhole measures 7½ (7¾-8) ins.

Shoulders—Bind off 7 (9-11) sts at beg. of next 2 rows; 10 sts at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 34 sts.

LEFT FRONT—Cast on 88 (92-96) sts for lower edge and fac­ing.
Row 1—K to within 13 sts of end, slip 1 st as to p for turn­ing ridge, k to end. P 1 row. Repeat last 2 rows, decreasing 1 st at underarm edge—beg. of k rows—, every 1 in. twice; 86 (90-94) sts. Always slip 13th st from front edge every k row. Work even until 3 ins. from beg., end with p row.
3rd dec. row—K 2 tog., k 33 (35-37) sts, k 2 tog., place a marker for dart before next st, k 2 tog., k to within 13 sts of end, slip 1, finish row.
Continue to dec. 1 st at underarm edge, and 1 st each side of marker every 1 in. 4 times; 71 (75-79) sts. Work even until 8 ins. from beg., end with p row.
First inc. row—Inc. 1 st in first st—underarm edge—, inc. 1 st each side of marker, finish row; 74 (78-82) sts. Repeat inc. row every 1 in. 3 times; 83 (87-91) sts.
This completes dart. Inc. 1 st at underarm edge every ¾ in. 4 times; 87 (91-95) sts. P 1 row. Front should measure 14 ins. from lower edge. Discontinue slipped st for ridge.

Neck Shaping—K 72 (76-80) sts, k 2 tog.; place remaining 13 sts for facing on safety pin, turn. Repeat dec. at front edge every 6th row 8 times; every 4th row 16 times, shaping armhole as on back when same length as back to armhole. Work even until same length as back to shoulder. Shape shoulder as on back. Take up 13 sts for facing. Beg. at inner edge, k 2 tog., k to end. Repeat dec. at inner edge every 6th row until 3 sts remain. Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT—Cast on 88 (92-96) sts.
Row 1—K 12, slip 1 st as to p, k to end. Work to correspond to left front, shaping underarm edge at end of k rows until 3 ins. from beg., end with p row.
3rd dec. row—K 12, slip 1, k 34 (36-38) sts, k 2 tog., place dart marker before next st, k 2 tog., k 33 (35-37), k 2 tog. Continue to work to correspond to left front up to last dec. row; 71 (75-79) sts. Work even until 7½ ins. from beg., end with p row—front edge.

Buttonholes—K 4, bind off 4 sts, work until 9 sts from bind-off, bind off 4 sts, finish row. Cast on 4 sts over each button­hole on next row. Repeat buttonholes every 3 ins. twice always including previous buttonhole in part worked even. Work to correspond to left front until same length to neck shaping, end at front edge.

Neck Shaping—K 11, k 2 tog., place these 12 sts on safety pin; k 2 tog., finish row. Finish to correspond to left front.

SLEEVES—Cast on 62 (64-66) sts. Working stockinette st, inc. 1 st each side every 1 in. 9 (6-3) times; every ¾ in. 10 (14-18) times; 100 (104-108) sts.
Work even until 17½ ins. from beg.
Bind off 8 (9-10) sts at beg. of next 2 rows.
Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 7 (6-5) times; every 6th row 7 (8-9) times; every 2nd row 3 times. Bind off 4 sts at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 26 (28-30) sts.

COLLAR—Cast on 3 sts. P 1 row. Inc. 1 st at beg. of k rows and end of p rows for 6 rows; mark increased edge for neck edge. Inc. 1 st at neck edge every 4th row 20 times; 29 sts. Work 8½ (9-9½) ins. even. Dec. 1 st at neck edge—beg. of next k row—; repeat dec. every 4th row 20 times; every row 5 times. Bind off remaining 3 sts. Make 2. With p sides tog., join by working 1 row sc from right side on straight edge of collar, working through the 2 pieces.

POCKET FLAPS—Cast on 44 sts for lower edge. Working stockinette st, dec. 1 st each side every 6th row 4 times; 36 sts. Work even until 2½ ins. from beg., end with p row. Bind off, do not break yarn. From right side, work 1 row sc on shaped and cast-on edges. Make 2.

FINISHING—Turn back facings on ridge formed by slip st and hem on wrong side. Baste shaped edge of facings to neck edge. Block each piece separately. Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm. Sew collar to neck edge with center of collar at center back of neck and ends of collar at beg. of neck shaping. Tack shaped edge of facing to neck edge of collar. Sew pocket flaps to fronts with top edge 6½ ins. from lower edge and side edge 3 ins. from front edge of jacket. Work 1 row sc from right side on lower edge of jacket. Work buttonholes through both thicknesses. Steam seams and sc row.
